Overview

The ABB 5333WMG3 is a straight liquidtight flexible conduit fitting designed for 3/4 inch conduit sizes. This fitting is assembled with a wiremesh grip, providing secure termination for liquidtight flexible metal conduit. The wiremesh grip prevents severe conduit bends and pullout, ensuring reliable performance in demanding applications. The fitting includes a steel gland nut, stainless steel wiremesh, and an aluminum collar for durability and corrosion resistance. Dimensions are approximately 6-1/4 inches (A). This fitting is part of the ABB T&B fittings series, designed for use with liquidtight flexible metal conduit systems. It is suitable for installations where conduit movement or vibration is a concern, maintaining the integrity of the liquidtight seal. The straight configuration simplifies installation and connection within conduit runs, making it an essential component for electrical installations in harsh environments.

How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors with Grips

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight connectors with grips onto flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Torque wrench, Flat nose pliers (optional)

Supplies needed:

Flexible metallic conduit, T&B Liquidtight Connector with Grip, T&B 140 Series locknuts (for knockout applications), T&B 5262 Series sealing o-rings (for knockout applications)

  1. Prepare the Flexible Conduit

Cut the flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a 32 Tooth/Inch no-set sharp hacksaw or a 24-32 Tooth/Inch wavy-set power band saw (not exceeding 400 surface feet per minute). CAUTION: DO NOT USE AN ABRASIVE WHEEL for cutting.

  2. Slide Grip and Gland Nut onto Conduit

Slide the grip with the gland nut assembly onto the prepared flexible conduit. If installing at maximum cord diameter, pre-form the endless weave mesh by carefully forming each loop round using flat nose pliers to facilitate installation.

  3. Place the Sealing Ring

Slide the one-piece sealing ring onto the conduit. Ensure correct orientation, especially for specific series like 5371 where the 'BOX SIDE' should face the outside of the box.

  4. Attach the Ground Cone

Screw the Safe-Edge steel grounding cone into the conduit tightly. Ensure it is fully engaged and secure.

  5. Seat the Sealing Ring

Push the sealing ring towards the ground cone and firmly seat it into the ground cone flange, ensuring a tight seal.

  6. Insert Assembly into Connector Body

Insert the assembled ground cone and the end of the conduit into the connector body. Ensure the components align properly.

  7. Secure the Gland Nut and Grip

Push the end of the grip along the conduit towards the connector body. Screw the gland nut onto the body and tighten it to the specified torque using a torque wrench (e.g., 200 lb-in for 3/8", 300 lb-in for 1/2", 500 lb-in for 3/4", 700 lb-in for 1", 1000 lb-in for 1-1/4", 1200 lb-in for 1-1/2", 1600 lb-in for 2" to 4"). After tightening, verify that the grip is laying flat and fully extended out along the conduit.

  8. Mount to Knockout Box (Optional)

For knockout applications, use T&B 140 Series locknuts and T&B 5262 Series sealing o-rings (purchase sealing ring separately). Follow standard procedures for securing the connector to the knockout box wall, ensuring the 'O' ring is correctly positioned on the outside of the box.
