This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors with grips, ensuring high performance and reliability as demanded by specifying engineers.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw (32 Tooth/In no set, sharp), Power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set, max 400/sfpm), Flat nose pliers
Supplies needed:
Flexible metallic conduit, T&B Liquidtight connector with grip, T&B 140 Series locknuts (for knockout applications), T&B 5262 Series sealing o-rings (for knockout applications)
- Prepare Conduit
Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal liquid tight conduit and a sharp hacksaw (32 Tooth/In no set) or a power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set, not more than 400/sfpm for high production). CAUTION: DO NOT USE AN ABRASIVE WHEEL for cutting.
- Pre-form Mesh (Optional)
If installing at maximum cord diameter, pre-form the endless weave mesh. Using flat nose pliers, carefully form each loop round. Repeat for all loops.
- Assemble Connector Components
Slide the grip with the gland-nut assembly onto the conduit. Then, slide the one-piece sealing ring onto the conduit.
- Install Ground Cone
Screw the SAFE-EDGE® steel grounding cone into the conduit tightly.
- Seat Sealing Ring
Push the sealing ring towards the ground cone and ensure it is seated firmly into the ground cone flange.
- Insert into Body
Insert the assembled ground cone and sealing ring into the body of the connector.
- Secure Gland Nut
Push the end of the grip along the conduit towards the connector body and screw the gland nut onto the body. Tighten the gland nut to the specified torque from the provided table (e.g., 200 lb-in for 3/8", 300 lb-in for 1/2", etc.). After tightening, verify that the grip is laying flat and fully extended out along the conduit.
- Knockout Application (Conditional)
For knockout applications, use T&B 140 Series locknuts and T&B 5262 Series sealing o-rings. Note that the sealing o-ring must be purchased separately.
