This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors with grips, ensuring high performance and reliability in various applications.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw (32 Tooth/In no set, sharp), Power band saw (24-32 Tooth/In. wavy set, not more than 400/sfpm), Flat nose pliers
Supplies needed:
Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B Liquidtight Connector with Grip, T&B 140 Series locknuts (for knockout applications), T&B 5262 Series sealing o-rings (for knockout applications)
- Prepare the Flexible Conduit
Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end cut. Ensure you are using metal liquidtight conduit. For cutting, use a 32 Tooth/In no set, sharp hacksaw, or for high production, a 24-32 Tooth/In. wavy set power band saw, not exceeding 400 surface feet per minute. CAUTION: Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting.
- Install Grip and Gland-Nut
Slide the grip with the gland-nut assembly onto the prepared conduit. If installing at maximum cord diameter, preform the endless weave mesh by carefully forming the loops round using flat nose pliers to facilitate installation.
- Slide Sealing Ring onto Conduit
Slide the one-piece sealing ring onto the conduit, ensuring it is oriented correctly for proper sealing.
- Screw Ground Cone into Conduit
Screw the Safe-Edge® steel grounding cone into the conduit tightly until it is firmly seated.
- Seat Sealing Ring
Push the sealing ring towards the ground cone and seat it firmly into the ground cone flange to create a tight seal.
- Insert Ground Cone into Connector Body
Insert the assembled ground cone and conduit end into the connector body, ensuring a snug fit.
- Secure Gland Nut and Grip
Push the end of the grip along the conduit toward the body and screw the gland nut onto the body. Tighten the gland nut to the specified torque (e.g., 200 lb-in for 3/8", 300 lb-in for 1/2", 500 lb-in for 3/4", 700 lb-in for 1", 1000 lb-in for 1-1/4", 1200 lb-in for 1-1/2", 1600 lb-in for 2" to 4"). After tightening, verify that the grip is laying flat and fully extended out along the conduit. For knockout applications, use T&B 140 Series locknuts and 5262 Series sealing o-rings (purchase separately).
