This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing a push-in liquidtight flexible metal conduit fitting, ensuring proper connection and sealing. Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and Canadian electrical codes.
Tools needed:
Sharp hacksaw, Band saw, Deburring tool, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Listed liquidtight flexible metal conduit (UL 360 and CSA C22.2 No. 56 compliant), Push-in Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit Fitting
- Disconnect Power
WARNING: Disconnect all power before beginning installation to prevent risk of electric shock. Failure to do so may result in injury or death.
- Prepare the Conduit
Using a sharp hacksaw or band saw, cut the liquidtight flexible metal conduit cleanly and squarely. Remove any burrs or frayed material from the cut edge to ensure proper sealing and connection (refer to Figure 2 in the documentation).
- Prepare the Fitting
DO NOT DISASSEMBLE THE FITTING. Lightly spin the Gland Nut down until you encounter minor resistance. At this point, the Sealing Ring and Ground Cone chamfer are in contact, preparing the fitting for conduit insertion.
- Insert the Conduit
Align the prepared conduit and carefully push it onto the exposed end of the Ground Cone. Once the conduit end has started into the throat of the Sealing Ring, firmly push the conduit completely in until it bottoms out. To verify full insertion, mark the conduit from the cut end at the depth specified in the product table (e.g., 13/16" for 3/8" or 1/2" trade size, 7/8" for 3/4", 1-3/16" for 1"). When fully inserted, this mark should be level with the top of the sealing ring (refer to Figures 2 & 3). DO NOT PULL BACK ON THE CONDUIT ONCE IT IS FULLY INSERTED. Note: If the conduit is difficult to insert, it may be poorly cut or not comply with UL and CSA dimensional requirements.
- Torque the Gland Nut
Tighten the Gland Nut to the specified torque value using a torque wrench (refer to Figure 3). Consult the product table for specific torque values (e.g., 200 lbs-in for 3/8", 300 lbs-in for 1/2", 500 lbs-in for 3/4", 700 lbs-in for 1"). The fitting must be fully torqued for proper performance and liquidtight sealing. Note: The Ground Cones used in these fittings are for one-time use only. If the Ground Cone is ever removed from the Conduit, replace with a new fitting.
