How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors (5000 Series)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors, including preparation, assembly, and secure mounting to ensure high performance and reliability.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw (32 Tooth/inch no. set, sharp), Metal jig (optional, for cutting conduit), Power band saw (optional, for high production), Smooth jaw wrench (for PVC coated connectors), Hand protection, Eye protection
Supplies needed:
Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B Liquidtight connector (e.g., 5255 series), T&B 140 series locknut (for knockout applications, if not included), T&B 5260 series sealing gasket (for knockout applications, if not included), PVC cement (if installing PVC coated connectors and gouging occurs)
- Disconnect Power and Prepare Conduit
WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect all power to the electrical system before beginning installation. CAUTION: This product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Wear hand protection and eye protection. Cut the flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end cut. Use a metal jig and a sharp hacksaw with a 32 Tooth/inch no. set, or a power band saw with a 24-32 Tooth/inch wavy set (not exceeding 400 feet/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel.
- Assemble Connector onto Conduit
For 5000, 7000, and 9000 series connectors, slide the gland nut onto the prepared conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone into the conduit. If installing a PVC coated connector, tighten the assembly with a smooth jaw wrench. If gouging occurs and exposes metal, PVC cement is recommended to ensure maximum corrosion protection.
- Secure Connector to Knockout Box
Insert the assembled connector body into the knockout opening of the electrical box. For knockout applications, use a T&B 140 series locknut and a T&B 5260 series sealing gasket (purchase separately if not included). Position the locknut on the inside of the box and the connector body on the outside. Tighten the locknut to the connector body according to the specified torque: 3/8" (200 lb.-in.), 1/2" (300 lb.-in.), 3/4" (500 lb.-in.), 1" (700 lb.-in.), 1 1/4" (1000 lb.-in.), 1 1/2" (1200 lb.-in.), 2" (1600 lb.-in.), 2 1/2" (1600 lb.-in.), 3" (1600 lb.-in.), 3 1/2" (1600 lb.-in.), 4" (1600 lb.-in.).
