How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly installing T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors, ensuring high performance and reliability in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set), Power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set, max 400'/minute), Metal jig (optional, for cutting conduit), Smooth jaw wrench (for PVC coated connectors), Torque wrench (for final tightening)

Supplies needed:

T&B Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connector, Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B 140 series locknuts (for knockout applications, if needed), 5260 series sealing gaskets (for knockout applications, if needed), PVC cement (optional, for PVC coated connectors if gouging occurs)

  1. Prepare the Flexible Conduit

WARNING: Wear hand protection and eye protection. Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig, a 32 Tooth/ln. hacksaw, or a 24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set power band saw (not more than 400'/minute). Do NOT use an abrasive wheel for cutting.

  2. Assemble the Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, slide the gland nut onto the conduit. Next, slide on the nylon sealing ring. Finally, thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench for tightening; if gouging occurs exposing metal, PVC cement is recommended.

  3. Install Connector into Enclosure and Secure

WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Insert the connector body into the knockout box. For knockout applications, use T&B® 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchase separately). For 7000 and 9000 series, order locknut separately. Tighten the locknut to the connector body according to the specified torque values (e.g., 3/8": 200 lb.-in., 1/2": 300 lb.-in., 3/4": 500 lb.-in., 1": 700 lb.-in., 1 1/4": 1000 lb.-in., 1 1/2": 1200 lb.-in., 2"-4": 1600 lb.-in.).
