How to Install 375LR/376LR Loadbreak Elbow Connectors
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe installation and wiring of Elastimold 375LR and 376LR Loadbreak Elbow Connectors on UD cable, including cable preparation and elbow assembly.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Probe Wrench, Wire brush, Crimp tool, Hotstick
Supplies needed:
Elbow Connector Housing, Compression Lug, Probe, Lubricant (Do Not Substitute), Copper wire (No. 14 AWG / 2.5mm), Appropriate connector, Insulated cap(s) or connector(s) (if applicable)
- Perform Pre-Installation Checks
DANGER: All apparatus must be de-energized during installation or removal of parts. Failure to follow instructions will result in serious or fatal injury. Inspect package contents for completeness and damage. Verify all components fit properly with the cable and mating products. Check probe threads by hand-threading into the compression lug; replace if resistance is encountered. Read all instructions and gather required tools, maintaining cleanliness throughout the procedure.
- Train and Cut Cable
Train the UD cable as shown in the documentation to ease future operation. Cut the excess cable squarely at the center line of the bushing.
- Prepare Cable End
Unwrap and bind concentric neutral wires 8-1/2 inches back from the cable end. Remove the shield and insulation from the cable end, cutting squarely without nicking the conductor. Wire brush bare aluminum conductors and immediately install the compression lug, rotating to spread inhibitor. Align the lug's threaded hole with the bushing bore. Crimp the lug according to the crimp chart, rotating 180 degrees for each successive crimp. Carefully wipe excess inhibitor. Remove the insulation shield and bevel the insulation end a maximum of 1/8 inch. Thoroughly clean the insulation to remove all conductive residue.
- Assemble Elbow Connector
Lubricate the cable insulation and the inside of the elbow housing with the supplied lubricant; do not substitute. Slide the elbow connector onto the cable using a back-and-forth twisting motion. Wipe off any excess grease. Align the elbow with the compression lug's threaded hole. Hand-thread the probe into the lug, ensuring it turns freely for approximately four turns before becoming snug. Tighten the probe with a wrench until the wrench bends.
- Connect Concentric Neutral
Insert one end of a separate No. 14 AWG (2.5mm) copper wire or equivalent through the grounding eye on the elbow. Twist it tightly, taking care not to damage the eye. Twist all neutral wires together and connect them to ground using an appropriate connector. Ensure adequate slack in the wires for future elbow operation.
- Lubricate and Position for Connection
WARNING: Lubricate the receptacle portion of the elbow connector and the mating bushing with the supplied lubricant ONLY IF THE TRANSFORMER AND ELBOW ARE KNOWN TO BE DE-ENERGIZED. Position the elbow for connection to the bushing plug, but do not operate by hand. Refer to operating instructions for final connection.
