Overview

The nVent Quick Tray Pro QTP4X22 straight section is a 4-inch by 22-inch wire mesh cable tray designed for efficient cable management in industrial and commercial environments. This 10-foot section features a durable steel construction with a light gray finish, providing a corrosion-resistant solution for indoor applications. The open wire mesh design (2 x 4 in. mesh) allows cables to be routed in or out at any point without cutting the tray, enabling flexible installation and future modifications. The system includes 4-inch sidewalls to securely hold cables in place. Engineered for modular expansion, the QTP4X22 integrates seamlessly with other Quick Tray Pro components (bends, tees, reducers) to create custom cable pathways for overhead, underfloor, or wall-mounted installations. Ideal for data centers, manufacturing facilities, telecommunications, commercial buildings, and healthcare environments where organized, accessible, and scalable cable routing is critical. The smooth, round wires minimize dust buildup and cable snagging, reducing maintenance time and improving airflow to prevent heat-related cable degradation.

How to Modify and Assemble QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray Systems

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for cutting, bending, and joining QUICK TRAY PRO cable tray sections, such as the QTP4X22, to create a customized cable management system, including guidelines for proper support.

Estimated time: 3h

Tools needed:

QTPBC Side Action Bolt Cutter

Supplies needed:

QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray sections (e.g., QTP4X22), QTPBNWK Splice Kits or QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits, QTPSSW3 Splice Washers or QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers, QTPUS10 Universal Splice Bars or QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars (as needed), QTP90TKIT T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar or QTP90TKITBLK (as needed), Appropriate mounting hardware and supports

  1. Plan Your Cable Tray Layout and Identify Required Cuts

Before making any cuts, thoroughly plan your cable tray route. Review the specific cutting patterns provided in the manual for desired bends, tees, or width reductions. Clearly mark the wires that need to be removed or cut for each modification.

  2. Cut Cable Tray Sections Using the Bolt Cutter

Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make precise cuts. For side wires, position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end. For bottom wires, turn the tray over, rest the jaws on the cradle wire, and cut at an angle away from the new end. Make one clean cut to eliminate grinding or touch-up, which helps minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion.

  3. Form and Secure 90-Degree Bends

To create a 90-degree bend, first cut all side wires at the desired bend location according to the specific tray width pattern. Turn the tray onto its uncut side and smoothly bend it up until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend by fastening with QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers at the indicated locations for your tray width.

  4. Join Cable Tray Sections

Connect straight tray sections or modified bends/tees using QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers. For specific configurations like elbows or 90-degree tees, follow the detailed cutting patterns for each tray section. Align the wires of the sections at the desired angle and fasten them securely using the appropriate splice kits and washers. For 90-degree tees, utilize the QTP90TKIT T-Connection Splice Bar.

  5. Install Cable Tray Supports

Install supports for the cable tray system. For straight sections, place supports typically at 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections, and the span between supports should not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to ensure stability and proper load distribution.
