How to Install and Customize QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray
This guide provides comprehensive instructions for planning, cutting, bending, and connecting QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections, including specific configurations like 90-degree bends, elbows, and tees, to create a custom cable management system.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hoffman Side Action Bolt Cutter, Measuring tape, Marker
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections (e.g., QTP4X20), QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kit, QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washer, QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bar, QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection or 90° Splice Bar, Cable tray supports
- Plan Your Cable Tray Layout and Prepare Sections
Determine the required length, width, and configuration of your cable tray system. Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter to make precise cuts on straight sections, ensuring the cutting jaws rest on the cradle wire and cuts are angled away from the new end to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion. Review cutting patterns for specific bends or junctions before cutting.
- Form Bends and Changes in Level
To create a 90-degree bend, cut the specified side wires at the bend location, then turn the tray and smoothly bend it until the inside edges meet. For large radius bends, remove outside and bottom wires from alternating mesh sections, then lay the tray flat and pull ends together. To change levels, remove alternating side wire sections at the bend location and smoothly bend the tray up or down.
- Connect Tray Sections and Secure Bends
Join straight tray sections, bends, elbows, and tees using QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers. For 90-degree bends, fasten with splice kits and washers at the indicated locations. When creating elbows or tees, align the cut wires of the tray sections at the desired angle and secure them with splice kits and washers. For Y-junctions, cut both tray sections, bend side wires to 45 degrees, and connect with universal splice bars, splice kits, and washers.
- Install Supports for the Cable Tray System
Install cable tray supports at regular intervals, typically 6-foot (1.5m) centers for straight sections. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to maintain stability and proper load distribution.
