How to Install and Modify QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray
The QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray system offers flexible solutions for cable management. This guide provides instructions for cutting, bending, and connecting tray sections to create custom installations.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, Splice Kit (QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washer (QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bar (QTPUS10 or QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90-degree Splice Bar (QTP90TKIT or QTP90TKITBLK)
- Plan Your Cable Tray Configuration
Before cutting or assembling, review your desired cable tray layout and identify all necessary straight sections, bends, elbows, and tees. Refer to the specific cutting patterns in the manual for each required modification (e.g., 90-degree bend, large radius bend, elbow, tee) to determine which wires must be removed.
- Cut QUICK TRAY PRO™ Sections
Always use the specified Hoffman side action bolt cutter for precision cuts and to minimize sharp edges that could snag cables or cause injury. For side wires, position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end. For bottom wires, turn the tray over, rest the cutting jaws on the cradle wire, and cut at an angle away from the new end. Ensure each cut is clean to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion.
- Form and Secure Tray Modifications
For 90-degree bends, large radius bends, elbows, or tees, follow the specific cutting and bending patterns provided in the manual for your tray size. Once the desired shape is formed, secure the connections using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. For additional support, especially on tray sides, utilize QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars or QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection Splice Bars as needed.
- Install and Support the Cable Tray System
Install straight sections with supports placed at 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to maintain stability and load bearing capacity.
