How to Install a Panduit Rack Power Distribution Unit (PDU)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for qualified personnel to install and connect a Panduit Rack Power Distribution Unit (PDU) into a datacenter rack or cabinet, including mounting, grounding, and power connection.

#2 Phillips screwdriver, T10 Torx screwdriver, T20 Torx screwdriver, 2.5mm hex key Allen wrench
Supplies needed:
Mounting buttons (if not pre-installed), Cage nuts (for horizontal PDU mounting), Ground bonding cable, Star washer, PDU power cord
- Mount the PDU to the Rack
Secure the PDU to the datacenter rack or cabinet using the appropriate mounting hardware. For vertical (0U) PDUs, insert the pre-installed mounting buttons into the keyhole slots on the rack's PDU mounting bracket and secure with a #2 Phillips screwdriver to 3.0Nm. For horizontal (1U/2U) PDUs, install cage nuts at the desired U location on the rack rails, then screw the PDU's mounting bracket ears into the rails. For high power units, adjust ear positions and secure with a 2.5mm hex key Allen wrench.
- Ground the PDU
Connect a ground bonding cable from the external ground bonding point on the PDU chassis to a known earthed reference terminal in the building or a grounding strip/bus bar within the rack. Utilize the provided external earthing screw with a star washer for supplementary bonding to the rack metalwork. Ensure the conductor size meets national or local electrical codes (e.g., 14 AWG for up to 15A, 12 AWG for up to 20A).
- Connect to Power Source
WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, ensure all feed circuit breakers are in the Off position before connecting input power. Verify all circuit breakers on the PDU are set to On. Connect the PDU's input power cord to an appropriately rated, grounded (earthed) branch circuit that adheres to all local and national electrical codes. Refer to the compliance label on the PDU for input ratings. Once connected, turn the feed circuit breaker On and wait for the operating system to load until the Main Menu displays.
- Rotate Network Controller (Optional)
If a specific orientation of the physical ports is desired, use a T10 Torx screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the network controller. Disconnect the ribbon cable to prevent damage, rotate the controller to the preferred orientation, and carefully reconnect the ribbon cable, ensuring no crimping or pinching. Re-fasten the screws to a torque of 2.2–3.1 lbf-in [0.25–0.35 N-M]. The screen automatically rotates via an internal accelerometer, so this step is only for physical port orientation.
