Overview

NSI Industries L3014P is a UL486A and UL467 listed 1-hole long barrel copper compression lug designed for 3/0 AWG copper cable with a 1/4" bolt size. Manufactured from high-conductivity copper tubing and tin-plated for corrosion resistance and low contact resistance, this lug ensures reliable electrical connections in demanding applications. The L3014P features a die-indexed and color-coded design (brown) for easy identification and installation. The integrated peep hole allows for visual verification of cable insertion depth, ensuring proper termination and compliance with installation standards. Rated for a maximum of 35kV when installed per cable manufacturer instructions, this lug is suitable for high-voltage applications up to 600V and operates reliably at 90°C. NSI’s compression lugs are engineered for Class B or C building wire copper cable only, with maximum ampacity determined by NEC 310.15 guidelines. The long barrel design provides enhanced mechanical strength and stability, reducing the risk of pull-out or damage during installation. Ideal for grounding and bonding applications in industrial, commercial, and utility settings, the L3014P delivers durable, low-resistance connections with minimal maintenance requirements. Order in bulk (50 units per carton) for efficient inventory management and project planning.

2Hole Short Barrel Copper Compression Lug for Flexible Copper Cable3/0AWG - 1/2" Bolt Compression lugs for flexible copper cables are connects that have a gentle, continuous flared end to ensure ease of cable insertion of flexible and extra flexible cables such as locomotive, welding, mining cable and more. The flared end also reduces pressure on the cable strands after installation and protects them from chafing and breakage as a result of cable movement. Tin-plated for corrosion resistance. Rated 600 volts for copper cables only. Single mounting hole.

How to Install and Crimp NSI Copper Compression Connectors

Install NSI copper compression lugs or splices by preparing the conductor, selecting the correct connector size, and crimping with the approved tool and die set. Follow the strip-length and crimp-location guidance to ensure a secure electrical connection.

Tools needed:

Wire brush, Approved compression crimp tool, Approved dies for the selected connector series, Mechanical crimp tool (NSI M-250 or NSI M-500, if applicable)

Supplies needed:

NSI copper compression connector or splice sized for the conductor, Copper conductor cable, Insulation to be stripped from the conductor

  1. Select the correct connector

Choose the proper NSI lug or splice connector for the cable size and conductor type. Verify that the connector series and size match the table for the wire gauge or MCM being installed, and confirm the connector is approved for concentric, compressed, or compact copper conductors.

  2. Strip the conductor to the correct length

Carefully strip the insulation from the conductor without nicking the strands. Strip enough length so the conductor can be completely inserted into the connector barrel and fill it fully.

  3. Clean the conductor strands

Wire brush the stripped portion of the conductor to remove oxide films and contamination. Make sure the stripped copper is clean before insertion to help achieve a reliable connection.

  4. Insert the conductor fully into the barrel

Insert the cleaned conductor completely into the connector barrel until it is fully seated. Verify that the stripped portion fills the barrel and that no strands are left outside the connector.

  5. Crimp the connector with the approved tool

Use the approved NSI crimp tool and the correct die set for the connector series. Follow the barrel markings for the suggested crimp locations, and make the required number of crimps; long-barrel lugs and splices require twice as many crimps as indicated in the table.

  6. Verify the finished connection

Inspect the crimped connector to confirm it is secure and properly compressed. If using an NSI M-250 or M-500 mechanical crimp tool, ensure it is matched to the conductor size before crimping.
