Estimated time: 1h
Tools needed:
Wire strippers, 1/8 inch Hex wrench, Cable cutting tool
Supplies needed:
Y-Type Insert & Housing (Line Side), Connecting Link (Disconnect Kits Only), Load End Insert with Connector, Load End Twin Cap, Silicone Grease, Appropriate cables (CU or AL), Midget Type Fuse (1 1/2 x 13/32) (if applicable)
- Prepare Load End Housing
Select the correct cut-off ring on the Load End housing for the cable being used. Cut off the end of the housing at the tip of the arrow, leaving the correct cable size showing.
- Prepare Load End Cable
Wipe the cable clean. For larger size cables, bevel the end of the cable insulation for ease of installation. Apply silicone grease to the end of the cable and to the cut opening of the Load End housing.
- Insert Load End Cable into Housing
Insert the cable into the Load End housing until it extends 2 to 3 inches beyond the housing.
- Insert Fuse or Connecting Link
Insert the appropriate fuse (if applicable) or connecting link into the YY Load Side assembly.
- Strip Load End Cable Insulation
Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from the cable ends, exposing the conductor. CAUTION: Do not exceed the specified strip length.
- Connect Load End Wires
Insert the stripped wires into the connector of the Load End insert. Tighten the screws securely to hold the wires.
- Seat Load End Insert
Apply silicone grease to the insert. Pull on the wires and/or push the insert until it is properly seated in the Load End twin cap housing.
- Prepare Line Side Housing
Select the correct cut-off ring for the cable being used on the Line Side housing.
- Prepare Line Side Cable
Cut and pencil the cable insulation. Apply silicone grease to the end of the cable and to the cut opening of the Line Side housing. Slide the cable through until it extends 2 to 3 inches beyond the housing. Bare 1/2 inch of insulation from the cable end. CAUTION: Do not overstrip.
- Connect Line Side Wires
Insert the stripped cables into the Line Side insert connector as shown in the illustration. Tighten the screws to a minimum of 30 inch-pounds using a 1/8 inch hex wrench.
- Assemble Line Side Insert into Housing
Lubricate the Line Side insert with silicone grease. Slide the housing up to the bottom of the insert. Push the insert into the opening of the housing. While holding the housing, pull on the cables and slide the housing toward the insert. Push the insert until it is fully seated in the housing.
- Lubricate Components
Lubricate the male and female components of the disconnect kit with the supplied silicone grease.
