How to Install the Flood Seal Submersible Splice Cover FSS 20 & FSS 20L

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Flood Seal Submersible Splice Cover, ensuring a watertight and insulated connection for low voltage cables. Always ensure installation is performed by trained personnel following all applicable electrical codes and safety rules to prevent electric shock.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Cutting tool, Insulation stripping/beveling tool

Supplies needed:

Silicon grease, Silicone sealant, Electrical connector, Flood Seal FSS 20 or FSS 20L splice cover

  1. Select Correct Cut-Off Ring

Select the correct cut-off ring for the specific cable size being used to ensure a proper fit for the splice cover. Refer to the markings on the cap for guidance (e.g., #14 to #8, #8 to #4, #4 to 1/0).

  2. Prepare Rocket Sleeve and Cap

Using a cutting tool, cut off the rocket sleeve and cap at the tip of the arrow, ensuring that the correct cable size is visible on both the opened rocket and the cap after cutting.

  3. Bevel Cable Insulation

Bevel or pencil the cable insulation by 1/4 inch (approximately 6mm) for ease of installation and to ensure a smooth transition for the splice cover components.

  4. Apply Silicon Grease

Apply silicon grease generously to the prepared cable ends. This will aid in sliding the splice cover components into place and enhance the watertight seal.

  5. Slide Rocket and Cap Over Cable

Slide the cut rocket sleeve and cap over the prepared cable, positioning them appropriately away from the splice area for the upcoming connection.

  6. Install Electrical Connector

Install the electrical connector to join the cable conductors. Ensure the connection is secure and made according to manufacturer specifications and applicable electrical codes.

  7. Seal and Assemble Housing

Apply silicone sealant to the open edge of the rocket sleeve. Carefully slide the two halves of the Flood Seal Housing together, centering it precisely over the installed electrical connection to create a watertight and insulated seal.
