How to Install the STX075-465PVC Cable Fitting

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing the cable, assembling the STX075-465PVC cable fitting, and sealing it with SC4-KIT-1 liquid compound for hazardous locations. Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

Estimated time: 1h 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Strap wrenches, Wire strippers

Supplies needed:

STX075-465PVC Cable Fitting, SC4-KIT-1 LIQUID SEALANT, Fiber damming material, Lubricant, Damp cloth, Gloves and appropriate PPE

  1. Prepare the Cable and De-energize Circuits

WARNING: Before installing or performing maintenance, verify that all circuits are de-energized to prevent electrical shock. Determine the required conductor length inside the enclosure or device. Remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the armor, then cut the armor using a hacksaw, taking care not to nick or cut the conductor insulation. Trim the outer jacket to expose 1 inch of armor, as specified for the STX075-465PVC. Trim the inner jacket to a length of 1/8" to 3/8" to expose the conductor bundle.

  2. Assemble the Cable Fitting Components

Unscrew the gland nut from the fitting body. Strip the cable jacket off the armor. Progressively cut slices off the cable boot until the opening can snugly slide onto the armor. Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening and push until the cable armor firmly hits the end stop. Apply lubricant where indicated, then tighten the gland nut using strap wrenches until an appropriate seal is obtained or to a maximum torque of 600 IN-LBS. Ensure the cable remains centered for an optimal seal. Disassemble the hub from the body sub-assembly by loosening the union, then unscrew the sealing chamber from the body sub-assembly.

  3. Apply Liquid Sealing Compound

CAUTION: Wear gloves and other proper PPE when handling sealing compound. Pack the fiber damming material tightly into all voids between the conductors and the body. Spread strands of any uninsulated grounding conductor where applicable. Screw the sealing chamber back onto the body sub-assembly until it is completely seated. Position the cable and fitting vertically. Mix the SC4-KIT-1 liquid sealing compound following the instructions provided on its package. Dispense the mixed compound into the end of the sealing chamber until the level stabilizes and fills to the top. CAUTION: Immediately remove all excess compound material from the outside of the sealing chamber with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners such as powder cleaners, sandpaper, steel wool, or a wire brush that may damage the flame path.

  4. Finalize Installation

Allow the sealing compound to solidify for approximately 1 hour. Mount the hub in the desired location. Once the compound is solid, place the encapsulated assembly into the hub and secure it in position by tightening the union until it bottoms (metal to metal contact).
