How to Install the STX125-469SPVC Cable Fitting

Instructions for installing the STX125-469SPVC Star Teck™ PVC cable fitting, including preparation and sealing.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Strap wrenches (for PVC coated fittings), Dowel (for packing compound)

Supplies needed:

Sealing compound (SC4-KIT-1 Liquid Sealant or SC65 Putty Sealant), Lubricant (optional, for gland nut)

  1. Prepare the cable jacket and armor

Determine the required working length of the conductors. Remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the armor, then cut the armor using a hacksaw. Be careful not to nick the conductor insulation. Trim the outer jacket to the strip length indicated in the table.

  2. Prepare the cable boot

To cut the cable boot, either unscrew the gland nut and force the cable into the boot, cutting the boot in front of the cable, or progressively cut slices off the boot until it can snugly slide onto the armor.

  3. Feed cable through gland nut

Feed the cable through the gland nut opening and push until the cable armor contacts the end stop.

  4. Tighten the gland nut

Tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is obtained or to the maximum torque specified. Ensure the cable remains centered for optimal sealing.

  5. Prepare for sealing compound

Disassemble the hub from the body sub-assembly and unscrew the sealing chamber from the body. For shielded data cables, trim the inner jacket to 1/8"-3/8" to expose the conductor bundle, then remove the outer shield and filler materials without damaging inner shields.

  6. Apply sealing compound

If using liquid sealant (SC4-KIT-1), pack fiber damming material into voids and spread grounding conductor strands. Mix the compound, dispense into the sealing chamber until the level stabilizes (fill to top for smaller fittings, half-full then top up after 2 hours for larger fittings). If using putty sealant (SC65), mix the two parts until uniform, apply between conductors and around them, then slide the sealing chamber onto the cable and compound, screwing it to the body. Fill the throat area of the sealing chamber with compound and pack tightly around conductors.

  7. Assemble and secure the fitting

Screw the sealing chamber back onto the body sub-assembly. Position the fitting vertically. Once the sealing compound is solidified (approx. 1 hour for liquid, or after setting for putty), place the encapsulated assembly into the hub and secure by tightening the union until it bottoms (metal to metal contact).
