How to Install a Star Teck Extreme STE400GRL Cable Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of Star Teck Extreme STE series cable fittings, including cable preparation and sealing.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Torque wrench, Screwdriver
Supplies needed:
Star Teck Extreme STE series cable fitting, Armored cable, Enclosure or device
- Select the Appropriate Fitting
Choose the correct Star Teck Extreme STE series cable fitting that matches the enclosure and the specific armored cable you are using.
- Prepare the Armored Cable
WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to prevent risk of shock. Determine the required working length of conductors inside the enclosure. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Using a hacksaw, cut the armor and trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the provided table (Figure 1). CAUTION: Ensure you do not nick or cut the conductor insulation during this process. The strip length should be equal to the glandnut length (Figure 2).
- Insert Cable into Fitting
Feed the prepared cable through the gland funnel entry of the fitting. Push the cable until its armor firmly contacts the armor stop (Figure 3). Verify the armor is correctly positioned to ensure proper cable armor grounding. If the inner conductor bundle does not pass through, unscrew and discard the armor stop (Figure 6), then re-insert the cable.
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut using a torque wrench until an appropriate seal is achieved or to the maximum torque specified in the table (Figure 4). Confirm that the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable's outer jacket and are flush with the glandnut face (Figure 5). Keep the cable centered during tightening for an optimal seal.
