How to Install Star Teck Cable Fittings
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly installing Star Teck Series cable fittings, ensuring a secure and sealed connection for armored cables in various applications.
Estimated time: 20m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Torque wrench (optional)
Supplies needed:
Star Teck Cable Fitting, Armored Cable
- Select Appropriate Fitting
Select the appropriate Star Teck cable fitting that accommodates both the enclosure and the specific armored cable you intend to use. Consult the product table provided in the documentation for proper sizing based on cable diameter and armor range.
- Prepare Cable for Insertion
WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to avoid risk of shock. Determine the working length of the conductor required inside the enclosure or device. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Use a hacksaw to cut the armor and trim the outer jacket to the strip length specified in the product table. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation during this process.
- Insert Cable into Gland Nut
Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening of the fitting. Push the cable until its armor makes firm contact with the internal end stop of the fitting.
- Tighten Gland Nut for Seal
Tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is obtained around the cable's outer jacket, or to the maximum torque specified in the product table. Ensure the bushing seals evenly and the cable remains centered within the fitting to obtain an optimal and secure seal. CAUTION: This product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
