Overview

The ABB STE125GRL Star Teck Extreme cable fitting, part of the 10464 Series, is a range-taking Teck fitting designed for jacketed metal-clad cable installations. This single fitting accommodates jacketed cable diameters from 1.150 to 1.625 inches, eliminating the need for multiple fitting sizes and simplifying inventory management. The 1-1/4 inch NPT hub size ensures compatibility with standard conduit and junction box entries, making it ideal for industrial applications requiring reliable cable protection and grounding. Key features include a durable aluminum construction for corrosion resistance in harsh environments, a Bond Star grounding locknut for secure 360° grounding, and a tapered bushing that provides a watertight seal to prevent cupping or water ingress in vertical installations. The removable armor stops prevent over-stripping of cable armor, enhancing installation safety and flexibility. The stainless steel retaining ring ensures dependable service in corrosive settings, while the low-profile gland nut with screwdriver and wrench flats allows for easy installation in tight spaces. The STE125GRL is suitable for hazardous locations including Class 1 Div. 2, Class II Div. 2, and Class III environments where explosion-proof or dust-proof fittings are not explicitly required by code. Its design prioritizes ease of use with a funnel entry for cable insertion and a reusable gland nut. The fitting’s Power-Grip grounding ring provides immediate contact with the cable, ensuring long-term dependable grounding without magnetic interference. Applications include manufacturing plants, processing facilities, and industrial complexes where cable integrity and protection are critical. The aluminum jacketed design offers robust protection against mechanical damage and environmental factors, making it a reliable choice for demanding industrial settings.

How to Install the Star Teck Extreme STE125GRL Cable Fitting

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing and installing Star Teck™ Extreme STE series cable fittings, ensuring proper cable armor grounding and sealing. WARNING: Disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Torque wrench

Supplies needed:

STE125GRL Cable Fitting, Armored cable, Enclosure or device

  1. Prepare the Cable

Determine the working length of conductors required inside the enclosure or device. Remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the cable armor. Cut the armor using a hacksaw and trim the outer jacket to adjust the exposed armor strip length as indicated in the provided table (refer to Figure 1). For STE125, the strip length is typically between 1.150 and 1.625 inches with the armor stop. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation.

  2. Insert Cable into the Fitting

Feed the prepared cable through the gland funnel entry. Push the cable until its armor firmly hits the armor stop (refer to Figure 3). Mispositioned cable armor may result in improper cable armor grounding. If the inner conductor bundle will not pass through, unscrew and discard the armor stop (refer to Figure 6), then repeat this step.

  3. Secure the Cable Fitting

Tighten the gland nut until you obtain an appropriate seal or to the maximum torque specified in the table (refer to Figure 4). For STE125, the maximum torque is 1000 in-lbs. Ensure the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable’s outer jacket and are flush with the glandnut face (refer to Figure 5). Verify the cable remains centered to obtain an optimal seal.
