How to Install an STX075-465 Star Teck Cable Fitting

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing your cable, installing the STX075-465 Star Teck cable fitting, and sealing it using liquid-type sealing compound SC4-KIT-1. This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Ensure all circuits are de-energized before beginning.

Estimated time: 1h 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Wrench, Damp cloth

Supplies needed:

STX075-465 cable fitting, Cable (power or shielded data), SC4-KIT-1 LIQUID SEALANT, Fiber damming material

  1. De-energize Circuits and Prepare Cable Armor

WARNING: Risk of electrical shock. Before installing, verify that all circuits are de-energized. Determine the required working length of conductors inside the enclosure or device. Remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the cable armor, then cut the armor using a hacksaw. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation.

  2. Trim Outer Jacket and Feed Cable

Trim the outer jacket to achieve an exposed armor strip length between 0.617 and 0.805 inches for the STX075-465 fitting. Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening and push it until the cable armor firmly hits the end stop.

  3. Tighten Gland Nut

Tighten the gland nut to obtain an appropriate seal, up to a maximum torque of 700 IN-LBS. Ensure the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable’s outer jacket and are flush with the gland nut face. Keep the cable centered to obtain an optimal seal.

  4. Disassemble Fitting and Trim Inner Jacket

Disassemble the hub from the body sub-assembly by loosening the union. Unscrew the sealing chamber from the body sub-assembly. Trim the inner jacket to a length of 1/8 to 3/8 inches to expose the conductor bundle. If using shielded data cables, also remove the outer (overall) shield and filler materials, taking care not to nick or damage inner shields.

  5. Pack Fiber Damming Material and Reassemble Sealing Chamber

Pack the fiber damming material tightly into all voids between the conductors and the body. Spread the strands of any uninsulated grounding conductor where applicable. Screw the sealing chamber back onto the body sub-assembly until it is completely seated.

  6. Mix and Dispense Liquid Sealant

Position the cable and fitting vertically. Mix the SC4-KIT-1 liquid sealing compound according to its package instructions. Dispense the sealing compound into the end of the sealing chamber until the level stabilizes and fills to the top. CAUTION: Remove all excess compound material from outside the sealing chamber with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners such as powder cleaners, sandpaper, steel wool, or wire brush that may damage the flame path.

  7. Mount Hub and Secure Assembly

Mount the hub in your desired location. After the sealing compound has solidified (after approximately 1 hour), place the encapsulated assembly into the hub. Secure it in position by tightening the union until it bottoms, ensuring metal-to-metal contact.
