How to Install Star Teck Extreme STE Cable Fittings
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of Star Teck Extreme STE series cable fittings, ensuring secure cable termination, grounding, and sealing in accordance with electrical codes.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Star Teck Extreme STE cable fitting, Armored cable, Enclosure or device
- Disconnect Power and Select Fitting
WARNING: Disconnect all power before beginning installation to prevent risk of shock. Ensure the product is installed by a qualified electrician. Select the appropriate Star Teck Extreme STE cable fitting that accommodates the enclosure and the specific armored cable being used.
- Prepare the Cable
Determine the required working length of conductors inside the enclosure or device. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Using a hacksaw, cut the armor and trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length as indicated in the product table (Figure 1). Ensure the cable strip length is the same as the length of the glandnut (Figure 2). CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation during this process.
- Feed Cable into Fitting
Feed the prepared cable through the gland funnel entry of the fitting. Push the cable until its armor firmly contacts the armor stop (Figure 3). Ensure the cable armor is correctly positioned, as mispositioned cable armor may result in improper cable armor grounding.
- Optional: Remove Armor Stop (If Necessary)
If the inner conductor bundle is too large and will not pass through the fitting, unscrew and discard the armor stop (Figure 6). After removing the armor stop, repeat Step 3 to feed the cable through the fitting.
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut using a torque wrench until an appropriate seal is achieved or to the maximum torque specified in the product table (Figure 4). Verify that the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable’s outer jacket and are flush with the glandnut face (Figure 5). Ensure the cable remains centered within the fitting to obtain an optimal seal.
