Overview

The ABB STE050GRL Star Teck Extreme aluminum jacketed fitting is a range-taking Teck cable termination designed to simplify cable management and reduce inventory requirements. This single fitting replaces multiple conventional Star Teck fitting hub sizes by accommodating cable jacket diameters from 0.600 to 0.985 inches, streamlining installation and stock control in industrial and commercial electrical systems. Key specifications include a 1/2 inch NPT hub size and a Bond Star grounding locknut for secure electrical connections. The fitting features a removable armor stop, now standard across the Star Teck Extreme line, which enhances installation flexibility and safety. The aluminum construction provides corrosion resistance and non-magnetic properties, making it suitable for harsh environments. The STE050GRL includes a tapered bushing that eliminates cupping and water ingress in vertical installations, ensuring watertight performance. The low-profile gland nut is designed for tight spaces, with grooves for screwdriver installation and flats for wrench use. The stainless steel retaining ring withstands corrosive environments while providing dependable service. This fitting is engineered for use with Star Teck jacketed metal-clad cable in hazardous locations where Class 1 Div. 2, Class II Div. 2, or Class III environments are present.

How to Install Star Teck Extreme STE050GRL Cable Fittings

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing the cable and installing the Star Teck Extreme STE050GRL cable fitting to ensure proper sealing and grounding in accordance with electrical codes.

Estimated time: 20m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Torque wrench

Supplies needed:

Star Teck Extreme STE050GRL Cable Fitting, Armored Cable

  1. Prepare the Armored Cable

WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to prevent risk of shock. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation. Determine the required working length of conductors inside the enclosure. Remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Cut the armor using a hacksaw and trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the product table (Figure 1). Ensure the strip length of the outer jacket is equal to the length of the gland nut, referring to the table (Figure 2).

  2. Feed Cable Through the Fitting

Insert the prepared cable through the gland funnel entry of the fitting. Push the cable until its armor firmly contacts the armor stop inside the fitting (Figure 3). Note: Improper positioning of the cable armor can compromise grounding. If the inner conductor bundle does not pass through, proceed to Step 3 to remove the armor stop.

  3. Optionally Remove Armor Stop

If the inner conductor bundle cannot pass through the fitting, unscrew and discard the armor stop (Figure 6). After removing the armor stop, repeat Step 2 to feed the cable through the gland funnel entry until the cable armor is properly seated.

  4. Secure the Gland Nut

Tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is achieved or to the maximum torque specified in the product table (Figure 4). Verify that the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable's outer jacket and are flush with the gland nut face (Figure 5). Ensure the cable remains centered within the fitting to achieve an optimal seal.
