How to Install a Star Teck™ Extreme STE Cable Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing a cable and properly installing a Star Teck™ Extreme STE series cable fitting, ensuring a secure and sealed connection for various applications.
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Wrench, Screwdriver
Supplies needed:
Star Teck™ Extreme STE cable fitting (e.g., STE075GRL), Armored cable
- Disconnect Power and Select Fitting
WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. Ensure the product is installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Select the appropriate Star Teck™ Extreme STE series fitting that matches your enclosure and cable specifications.
- Prepare the Cable Armor and Outer Jacket
Determine the required working length of conductors inside the enclosure. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Using a hacksaw, cut the armor and trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the product table (refer to Figure 1 in the documentation). CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation during this process.
- Prepare the Cable Strip Length
Ensure the cable's strip length, which is the length of the exposed conductors beyond the armor, is equal to the length of the glandnut. Refer to the product table (Figure 2 in the documentation) for the appropriate strip length for your specific fitting.
- Feed Cable into the Gland Funnel
Feed the prepared cable through the gland funnel entry of the fitting. Push the cable until its armor firmly contacts the internal armor stop (refer to Figure 3 in the documentation). Ensure the cable armor is correctly positioned to guarantee proper grounding. If the inner conductor bundle does not pass through, proceed to Step 5 to remove the armor stop.
- (Conditional) Remove Armor Stop
If the inner conductor bundle cannot pass through the fitting, unscrew and discard the armor stop (refer to Figure 6 in the documentation). After removing the armor stop, repeat Step 4 to feed the cable through the gland funnel entry.
- Tighten the Gland Nut for a Secure Seal
Tighten the gland nut using a wrench until an appropriate seal is achieved, or to the maximum torque specified in the product table (refer to Figure 4 in the documentation). Verify that the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable’s outer jacket and are flush with the glandnut face (refer to Figure 5). Ensure the cable remains centered within the fitting to achieve an optimal and watertight seal.
