Overview

The ABB Installation Products STE075 Star Teck Extreme fitting (SKU: STE075) is a range-taking aluminum jacketed cable fitting designed for Teck cables in industrial applications. This single fitting replaces up to three conventional Star Teck fitting hub sizes, accommodating jacket diameters from 0.860 to 1.205 inches with a 3/4 inch NPT hub. Its innovative design simplifies inventory management by consolidating multiple fittings into one unit, reducing stocking requirements and installation time. Key features include a stainless steel retaining ring for corrosion resistance and non-magnetic performance, a Power-Grip grounding ring providing 360° long-term grounding with immediate cable contact, and a tapered bushing that ensures a secure, watertight fit while eliminating cupping in vertical installations. The low-profile gland nut is engineered for tight spaces, featuring grooves for screwdriver installation and flats for wrench gripping, with a reusable design and funnel entry for easy cable insertion. The STE075 is constructed from aluminum for corrosion resistance and oxidation protection, with a copper-free design suitable for hazardous locations including Class I Division 2, Class II Division 2, and Class III environments. Installation is straightforward: prepare the cable, insert it into the fitting, tighten the gland nut, and secure the union. The fitting's internal splines allow tightening either on or off the enclosure, while the twist-on union action with red color coding ensures high visibility and easy recognition during assembly and disassembly. Ideal for industrial cable management in manufacturing plants, chemical processing facilities, and outdoor installations requiring robust protection against environmental factors. The STE075's adaptability reduces the risk of improper fitting selection while maintaining system reliability through precise cable termination.

How to Install Star Teck Extreme STE075 Cable Fittings

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing the cable and properly installing the Star Teck Extreme STE075 cable fitting to ensure a secure and sealed connection. Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Torque wrench

Supplies needed:

Star Teck Extreme STE075 cable fitting, Armored cable (suitable for STE075)

  1. Disconnect Power and Select Fitting

WARNING: Disconnect all power before beginning installation to prevent risk of shock. Select the appropriate STE075 fitting that accommodates your enclosure and the specific armored cable being used. This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

  2. Prepare the Cable

Determine the required working length of conductors inside the enclosure. Remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Cut the armor using a hacksaw and trim the outer jacket to achieve an exposed armor strip length of 0.600 inches, as indicated in the table for STE075. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation during this process.

  3. Feed Cable into Fitting

Feed the prepared cable through the gland funnel entry of the STE075 fitting. Push the cable until its armor firmly contacts the armor stop inside the fitting (refer to Figure 3). Note: If the inner conductor bundle does not pass through, proceed to step 4 to remove the armor stop, then repeat this step. Improper cable armor grounding may occur if the armor is mispositioned.

  4. Optional: Remove Armor Stop (If Needed)

If the inner conductor bundle cannot pass through the fitting, unscrew and discard the armor stop (refer to Figure 6). After removing the armor stop, repeat step 3 to feed the cable through the fitting.

  5. Tighten the Gland Nut

Tighten the gland nut of the STE075 fitting using a torque wrench or appropriate tool. Apply a maximum torque of 860 IN-LBS to ensure an appropriate seal (refer to Figure 4). Verify that the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable's outer jacket and are flush with the gland nut face (refer to Figure 5). Ensure the cable remains centered within the fitting to obtain an optimal seal.
