Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Star Teck Extreme STE Cable Fitting, Armored cable
- Prepare for Installation and Select Fitting
WARNING: Disconnect all power before beginning installation to prevent risk of shock. Ensure the installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Select the appropriate Star Teck Extreme STE cable fitting that matches your enclosure and the armored cable being used.
- Prepare the Cable Armor
Determine the required working length of conductors inside the enclosure. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Using a hacksaw, cut the armor and trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in Figure 1 and the accompanying table. CAUTION: Avoid nicking or cutting the conductor insulation during this process. Refer to Figure 2 and the table to ensure the strip length is equal to the glandnut length.
- Feed Cable into Fitting
Feed the prepared cable through the gland funnel entry of the fitting. Push the cable until its armor firmly contacts the internal armor stop, as shown in Figure 3. Proper positioning is crucial for effective cable armor grounding. If the inner conductor bundle does not pass through, proceed to Step 4 to remove the armor stop.
- (Conditional) Remove Armor Stop
If the inner conductor bundle cannot pass through the fitting, unscrew and discard the armor stop (Figure 6). After removing the armor stop, repeat Step 3 to feed the cable through the gland funnel entry until the cable armor is properly seated.
- Tighten Gland Nut for Seal
Tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is achieved or to the maximum torque specified in the table (Figure 4). Verify that the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable's outer jacket and are flush with the glandnut face (Figure 5). Ensure the cable remains centered within the fitting to obtain an optimal and secure seal.
