How to Install Star Teck Extreme STE050 Cable Fittings
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation and wiring of Star Teck Extreme STE050 series cable fittings, ensuring a secure and compliant connection for armored cables.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Wrench or Torque Wrench
Supplies needed:
Star Teck Extreme STE050 Cable Fitting, Armored Cable
- Disconnect Power and Select Fitting
WARNING: Disconnect all power to the electrical system before beginning installation to prevent risk of shock. Select the appropriate Star Teck Extreme cable fitting that matches your enclosure and the armored cable being used. Refer to the product specifications for compatibility.
- Prepare the Armored Cable
Determine the required working length of conductors inside the enclosure. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Using a hacksaw, cut the armor to the strip length specified in the product table (Figure 1 and 2) for your specific STE050 fitting. CAUTION: Avoid nicking or cutting the conductor insulation during this process.
- Feed Cable into the Fitting
Feed the prepared armored cable through the gland funnel entry of the fitting. Push the cable until its armor firmly contacts the armor stop inside the fitting (Figure 3). Ensure the cable armor is correctly positioned to guarantee proper grounding. If the inner conductor bundle does not pass through, proceed to remove the armor stop as described in Step 4.
- Conditionally Remove Armor Stop
If the inner conductor bundle cannot pass through the fitting, unscrew and discard the armor stop (Figure 6). After removing the armor stop, repeat Step 3 to feed the cable through the gland funnel entry.
- Secure and Seal the Cable Fitting
Tighten the gland nut onto the fitting until a proper seal is achieved or to the maximum torque specified in the product table (Figure 4). Verify that the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable's outer jacket and are flush with the glandnut face (Figure 5). Ensure the cable remains centered within the fitting for an optimal seal.
