Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Wrench, Wire strippers, Measuring tape
Supplies needed:
Star Teck Cable Fitting, Armored Cable
- Select the Correct Fitting and Disconnect Power
WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Select the appropriate Star Teck cable fitting that accommodates both the enclosure and the specific armored cable being used. Refer to the product table for compatibility based on cable armor and jacket ranges.
- Prepare the Cable Armor and Jacket
Determine the required working length of the conductor inside the enclosure or device. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Using a hacksaw, cut the exposed armor to the specified strip length as indicated in the product table. Trim the outer jacket to adjust the exposed armor strip length. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation during this process.
- Insert Cable into Gland Nut Opening
Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening of the fitting. Push the cable until its armor firmly hits the internal end stop of the fitting. The design of the fitting does not require disassembly for this step.
- Secure and Seal the Fitting
Tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is achieved around the cable's outer jacket, or to the maximum torque specified in the product table. The bushing should seal evenly around the cable’s outer jacket. Ensure the cable remains centered within the fitting to obtain an optimal, watertight seal.
