How to Install Star Teck™ PVC Cable Fitting (ST125-470SPVC Series)

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of Star Teck™ PVC cable fittings, including cable preparation and sealing procedures, ensuring a secure and compliant connection. Disconnect power before installation.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Strap wrenches

Supplies needed:

Appropriate cable, Wire pulling lubricant (cat. number 15-236)

  1. Select the Correct Fitting

WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Select the appropriate Star Teck™ PVC cable fitting (e.g., ST125-470SPVC) that matches your enclosure and cable specifications, referring to the provided table for compatibility.

  2. Prepare the Cable Armor

Prepare the cable by determining the required working length. Remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the cable armor. Use a hacksaw to cut the armor, then trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the product table (refer to Figures 1 and 2 in the instruction sheet).

  3. Prepare the Cable Boot

Prepare the cable boot by either unscrewing the gland nut, forcing the square-cut cable into the boot, and cutting the boot in front of the cable (Method 1, Figure 3A), or by stripping the cable jacket off the armor and progressively cutting slices off the boot until it snugly slides onto the armor (Method 2, Figure 3B). CAUTION: Do not over strip the boot; ensure no gaps exist between the boot and the cable jacket.

  4. Feed Cable Through Gland Nut

Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening. Push the cable until its armor firmly contacts the internal end stop (refer to Figure 4 in the instruction sheet). Using wire pulling lubricant (cat. number 15-236) can facilitate this step.

  5. Tighten the Gland Nut

Tighten the gland nut using strap wrenches until an appropriate seal is achieved or up to the maximum torque specified in the product table (refer to Figure 5 in the instruction sheet). Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable's outer jacket and that the cable remains centered for an optimal seal.
