Overview

The ABB SLK-M VP Mechanical Connector is a precision-engineered solution for secure, insulated mechanical connections in industrial wiring systems. This connector integrates a wooden dowel, insulating cap, and rocket for reliable performance in demanding environments. The unit includes two tin-plated fuse clips for optimal conductivity, pre-applied silicone grease to prevent oxidation, and detailed installation instructions for ease of use. Designed for mechanical connections with fuse clips, the SLK-M VP ensures stable electrical contact while maintaining insulation integrity. The aluminum construction provides durability, while the wooden dowel offers structural support during installation. The insulating cap and rocket assembly protect against environmental contaminants and accidental short circuits. Tin-plated fuse clips enhance corrosion resistance and ensure consistent electrical performance over time. Ideal for applications requiring secure, insulated mechanical connections, the SLK-M VP is suitable for use in control panels, junction boxes, and industrial machinery where reliable electrical continuity is critical. The included silicone grease reduces friction during installation and prevents oxidation of metal components. How to Install the Flood-Seal SLK-M VP Streetlight Fuse Kit

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Flood-Seal SLK-M VP Streetlight Fuse Kit, including cable preparation, housing assembly, and final connection for 600V rated aluminum or copper conductors.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Wire strippers, Screwdriver, Assembly Dowel

Supplies needed:

Line End Housing, Load End Housing, Fuse Clips, Silicone Grease, Assembly Dowel, 13/32" x 1-5/8" max. cartridge fuse (600V, 30A max, non-glass body)

  1. Prepare for Installation and Ensure Safety

Identify Line and Load side wires and match housing body parts before proceeding. WARNING: Ensure all associated wires and the working area are de-energized to prevent electric shock. Installation must be performed by trained installers in accordance with all applicable local, state, and national electrical codes, installation standards, and safety rules.

  2. Prepare Cables and Fuse Clips (Both Ends)

For both the Line End and Load End cables, strip approximately 1/2 inch of insulation from the cable end. Slide a fuse clip over each bared conductor and tighten it securely.

  3. Prepare Housings for Cable Entry (Both Ends)

For both the Line End and Load End housings, select the correct cut-off ring that matches the cable being used. Cut off the end of the housing at the tip of the arrow, ensuring the correct cable size is showing. Wipe each cable clean and bevel the end of the cable insulation for easier installation. Apply silicone grease to the end of each cable and to the cut opening of each housing.

  4. Insert Cables into Housings (Both Ends)

For both the Line End and Load End, carefully insert the prepared cable into its respective housing until it extends 2 to 3 inches beyond the housing opening.

  5. Install Fuse Clips into Housings (Both Ends)

Apply a small amount of silicone grease to each fuse clip. Slide each housing over its respective fuse clip until resistance is felt. Using the provided wood dowel as an assembly and depth gauge tool, insert each fuse clip to the depth indicated for the line and load side housings as marked on the dowel. DO NOT exceed these depths.

  6. Insert Fuse and Mate Housings

Insert a 13/32 inch by 1-5/8 inch maximum (max. 600 Volt, 30 amp) cartridge fuse into the Load End housing. Do not use glass body fuses. Mate the Line End and Load End housings together to establish the electrical connection.
