How to Install K1601WJ2, K1601WJ3, or K1601WJ4 Loadbreak Well Junctions
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for mounting and connecting K1601WJ series two-, three-, and four-point loadbreak well junctions on flat or curved surfaces, including grounding and bushing installation.
Estimated time: 1h
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wrench, Measuring tape or ruler, Drill
Supplies needed:
Mounting brackets (included), Hardware (included with brackets), Lubricant (included), Bolts (user-supplied, 17/32 inch or 13mm diameter), Grounding wire (No. 10 Solid to No. 1 Stranded), Elastimold bushings (not included), Elastimold insulated cap(s) or plug(s) (if interfaces are unused)
- Safety First: De-energize and Inspect
Before beginning installation, ensure all apparatus is de-energized. Inspect all parts for damage, proper rating, and compatibility with mating components. Failure to follow these instructions will result in damage to the product and serious or fatal injury.
- Prepare and Mark Mounting Bracket Locations
Loosely attach the universal mounting brackets to the junction base bracket. Place the assembled unit against the desired mounting surface (flat or curved). Adjust the brackets for proper alignment and mark their exact location on the wall.
- Mount Universal Brackets to Wall
Detach the universal mounting brackets from the junction base bracket. Mount the brackets securely to the wall according to the marks made in Step 2. Refer to the provided mounting dimensions (A, B, C) for your specific junction part number (J2, J3, or J4) to ensure correct bolt center spacing. Note that one or both brackets can be inverted to adjust the distance between bolt centers. Use user-supplied bolts that fit 17/32” (13mm) diameter holes.
- Attach Junction Base to Mounted Brackets
With the universal mounting brackets securely fastened to the wall, attach the junction base bracket (with the loadbreak well junction already attached) to the mounted brackets. Ensure that the parking stands are in the upright position.
- Adjust and Secure Mounting Angle
Adjust the mounting angle of the junction to your desired position. The angle is adjustable from 0° through 90° above or below the horizontal in 15° increments. Once the desired angle is set, tighten all bolts securely to prevent any movement during operation.
- Ground the Junction Base Bracket
Ground the junction base bracket using the provided grounding lug. This lug is designed to accommodate grounding wire sizes from No. 10 Solid to No. 1 Stranded.
- Prepare Bushing Wells
Remove the protective shipping caps from all bushing wells. Carefully inspect each well to ensure it is completely dry and free from any contaminants. Lubricate the well interface area using only the supplied lubricant or an Elastimold-approved lubricant. Do not substitute with other lubricants, as they may harm the product or its mating components.
- Install Bushings
Install the appropriate Elastimold bushings into the prepared wells. Follow the specific installation instructions provided with the bushings themselves.
- Final Safety Check: Unused Interfaces
Before energizing the circuit, if any operating interfaces on the junction are not utilized, an Elastimold insulated cap or insulated plug MUST be installed on those unused interfaces. Do NOT use the protective shipping covers for this purpose, as they are not insulated and are only intended for cleanliness during handling and installation.
