How to Install the K1601WFTV Well Feed-Thru/Grounding Device
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe installation and initial setup of the K1601WFTV Well Feed-Thru/Grounding Device, including grounding, preparing bushing wells, and mounting.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Hotstick, Screwdriver, Wire strippers
Supplies needed:
Mounting hardware, Lubricant, No. 14 copper wire, Elastimold bushings, Insulated caps or plugs
- Ensure De-energized State and Inspect Components
Before beginning, ensure all apparatus is de-energized to prevent serious injury or fatality. Inspect all parts of the K1601WFTV package for completeness, damage, proper rating, and compatibility with mating products. Confirm all required tools are at hand and maintain cleanliness throughout the procedure. This product must only be installed by competent personnel trained in high voltage electrical equipment safety practices.
- Connect the Ground Lead
Insert a No. 14 copper wire or equivalent ground lead into the grounding lug provided on the mounting hardware. Tighten the lug securely. Connect the opposite end of the ground lead to a reliable ground source, ensuring enough slack is left to allow operation with a hotstick.
- Prepare Bushing Wells and Install Bushings
Remove the protective shipping caps from the bushing wells. Carefully inspect the bushing wells to ensure they are dry and free from all contaminants. Lubricate the well interface area using only the supplied lubricant or an ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant; do not substitute. Install the appropriate bushings into the wells, following the specific installation instructions provided with the bushings. IMPORTANT: Protective shipping caps must not be on the bushing wells when the feed-thru is in use.
- Mount the Feed-Thru onto the Parking Stand
Firmly attach the feed-thru eye to a hotstick. Using the hotstick, carefully slide the feed-thru onto the parking stand. Unlock the hotstick and back it off slightly to create space for tightening the eyebolt. Rotate the hotstick clockwise to tighten the eyebolt until it is snug; do not overtighten. Release the hotstick.
- Prepare Operating Interfaces for Energization
Remove any remaining protective shipping caps from the operating interfaces and clean them thoroughly. Apply silicone lubricant (do not substitute) before assembling with any ELASTIMOLD product. WARNING: If all operating interfaces are not utilized, an ELASTIMOLD insulated cap or insulated plug MUST be installed before energizing the circuit. Do not use the protective shipping covers for this function as they are not insulated.
