How to Install the Elastimold 1601A4 Loadbreak Bushing Insert
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe and proper installation of the Elastimold 1601A4 Loadbreak Bushing Insert, designed for 15kV class loadbreak connections. Ensure all apparatus is de-energized before beginning.
Tools needed:
200AT assembly tool (optional), Suitable rod (for 200AT tool, optional)
Supplies needed:
1601A4 Loadbreak Bushing Insert, Lubricant (supplied, DO NOT SUBSTITUTE), No. 14 AWG (2.5mm2) copper wire, Suitable connector for grounding wire, HV insulated cap or connector (for mating or temporary protection)
- De-energize Apparatus and Inspect Bushing Well
Ensure all apparatus is de-energized before proceeding. Inspect the apparatus bushing well to confirm it is dry and free from all contaminants. Remove the protective shipping cover from the bushing insert.
- Lubricate and Install Bushing Insert
Lubricate the bushing well interface area of the bushing insert using only the supplied lubricant or ELASTIMOLD approved lubricants; do not substitute. Place the lubricated portion of the bushing insert into the apparatus bushing well. Hand tighten the bushing insert in a clockwise direction until it bottoms. Alternatively, use a 200AT assembly tool with a suitable rod, turning clockwise until it ratchets, then remove the tool. Do not use other tools to avoid damage.
- Install Electrostatic Grounding Wire
Push a length of No. 14 AWG (2.5mm2) copper wire through one of the grounding tabs on the bushing insert. Form a small loop and twist it tightly, taking care not to damage the grounding tab. Connect the free end of this electrostatic grounding wire to the system ground using a suitable connector. Ensure the grounding wire does not contact the bushing interface, adjacent interfaces, or interfere with nearby accessories.
- Clean, Lubricate, and Mate Bushing Interface
Thoroughly wipe the bushing interface clean of any contaminants and lubricate it with the supplied lubricant. Install the mating product (e.g., elbow connector, insulated cap, or grounding elbow connector) to the bushing insert, following the instructions provided with the mating product. If the bushing insert is not immediately mated, replace the shipping cover, but understand it is for protection only and is not insulated or watertight; do not energize or submerge the apparatus with only the shipping cover installed.
- Verify Seating Indication
Confirm the complete assembly and proper seating of the insulated cap or elbow by verifying that no portion of the yellow band on the bushing insert is visible when viewed from the side.
