How to Install the Flood Seal Submersible Splice Cover FSS 20 & FSS 20L
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Flood Seal Submersible Splice Cover, designed for insulated low voltage cables from 2/0 stranded to #14 stranded conductor. It ensures watertight integrity for direct buried, underground network, and overhead splice joints. Installation must be performed by trained installers in accordance with all applicable electrical codes and safety rules to prevent electric shock.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Cable cutting tool, Insulation stripping tool
Supplies needed:
Flood Seal Submersible Splice Cover (FSS 20 or FSS 20L), Silicone grease, Electrical connector
- Select Correct Cut-Off Ring
Identify and select the appropriate cut-off ring on the rocket sleeve and cap that corresponds to the specific cable size being used (e.g., #14 to #8, #8 to #4, #4 to 1/0).
- Prepare Splice Cover
Cut off the rocket sleeve and cap at the tip of the arrow that aligns with your selected cable size. Ensure that the correct cable size marking remains visible on the opened rocket and cap.
- Prepare Cable Insulation
Bevel or pencil the cable insulation by approximately 1/4 inch. This preparation will facilitate easier installation of the splice cover over the cable.
- Apply Silicone Grease
Apply a layer of silicone grease to the prepared cable insulation. This aids in sealing and installation.
- Position Splice Cover Halves
Slide the cut rocket sleeve and cap halves over the prepared cable, positioning them ready for the connector installation.
- Install Electrical Connector
Install the appropriate electrical connector onto the prepared cable ends, ensuring a secure and proper connection.
- Seal Splice Connection
Apply silicone to the open edge of the rocket sleeve. Carefully slide the two halves of the Flood Seal Housing together, centering the housing over the installed electrical connection to create a watertight and insulated seal.
