Dual Rated for Aluminum and Copper ConductorsHow to Install Thomas & Betts FLOOD-SEAL 95 Heat Shrink Connector Kits
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Thomas & Betts FLOOD-SEAL 95 Heat Shrink Connector Kits, including conductor preparation, crimping, and heat shrinking procedures. Installation must be performed by trained installers following all applicable electrical codes and safety rules to prevent electric shock.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Wire brush, Crimping tool, Wrench or socket, Butane or Propane torch, or 500°F electric heat gun
Supplies needed:
Cable, Heat shrink sleeve, Lug, Joint compound, FLOOD-SEAL connector bus
- Prepare Conductor
Remove the cable insulation to the appropriate length and thoroughly wire brush the conductor to ensure a clean surface for connection.
- Position Heat Shrink Sleeve
Slip the heat shrink sleeve over the prepared cable end, ensuring it is positioned away from the crimping area for now.
- Crimp and Connect Lug
Crimp the lug securely onto the conductor end. Immediately wipe away any excess joint compound. Bolt the crimped lug firmly to the contact pad on the FLOOD-SEAL connector bus.
- Position Sleeve for Sealing
Slide the heat shrink sleeve over the crimped lug until it butts firmly against the connector bus.
- Shrink Sleeve at Bus End
Apply heat evenly to the sleeve at the connector bus end. Continue shrinking until a bead of mastic appears at the sleeve end, indicating a complete seal.
- Shrink Sleeve Over Terminal Lug
Working away from the connector bus, continue to apply heat evenly to shrink the sleeve over the terminal lug.
- Shrink Sleeve Over Cable End
Finally, shrink the sleeve over the cable end. Apply heat evenly and move the heat source to a new position as visual shrinkage occurs. A seal is complete when a bead of mastic appears at the sleeve end.
