This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Thomas & Betts "FLOOD-SEAL"® FS-95 Force Fit Type Connector Kit. Installation must be performed by trained installers in accordance with all applicable local, state, and national electrical codes, installation standards, and safety rules to prevent electric shock.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Cutting tool, Wire strippers, Crimping tool, Wrench or socket set
Supplies needed:
FLOOD-SEAL® FS-95 Connector Kit, Cable (appropriate conductor size), Lug, Silicone grease, Connector bar or bus
- Clean the Cable
Thoroughly clean the cable surface before proceeding with the rocket sleeve installation to ensure proper sealing and connection.
- Pencil the Cable Insulation
Prepare the cable insulation by penciling it as required for the connector to facilitate proper fit and insulation removal.
- Select the Correct Cut Ring
Identify the conductor size of the cable being installed. Refer to the raised numbers on each cut ring of the rocket sleeve and match the conductor size to the appropriate ring for your cable.
- Cut the Rocket Sleeve
Using a suitable cutting tool, cut off the tip of the rocket sleeve precisely up to the selected ring. This cut will ensure the correct conductor range is exposed on the sleeve for proper installation.
- Lubricate and Install Rocket Sleeve onto Cable
Apply silicone grease to both ends of the rocket sleeve and the cable. Hold the cable at an angle to the sleeve's opening. Twist the rocket sleeve while simultaneously pushing it onto the cable until it is fully seated.
- Compress Lug onto Cable
Securely compress the lug onto the prepared cable using an appropriate crimping tool, ensuring a robust electrical and mechanical connection.
- Bolt Terminal to Bus
Attach the terminal (with the compressed lug and cable) to the bus bar using a bolt, ensuring a secure electrical connection and proper torque according to specifications.
- Slide Rocket Sleeve over Lug and onto Bus
Slide the rocket sleeve, which is already on the cable, over the lug and onto the shoulder of the bus. Continue pushing until the rocket sleeve firmly butts against the rubber of the connector bar, creating a complete seal.
