This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing ASP AL9CU aluminum compression splices for stranded, compressed, compact aluminum and copper cables. WARNING: Disconnect power before installation. This product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

Wire brush, Wire strippers, Crimping tool, Appropriate crimping dies
Supplies needed:
ASP AL9CU aluminum splice, Aluminum or copper cable
- Check Wire and Splice Compatibility
Verify that the wire size marked on the ASP AL9CU aluminum splice matches the actual cable size you intend to use for the connection.
- Prepare Cable Insulation
Carefully strip the insulation from the cable, taking care not to nick or damage the cable strands during the process.
- Brush Cable Conductors
Using a wire brush (e.g., ABB catalog number WWB1), thoroughly brush the cable conductor that will be inserted into the splice connector to ensure good contact.
- Insert Cable into Splice
Fully insert the prepared cable into the splice connector until it reaches the internal stop. WARNING: Do not remove the oxide inhibitor from the splice barrel, as insufficient compound can result in an unsafe connection.
- Crimp the Connector
Consult the 'Tool and Die Index' to select the appropriate crimping tool and die combination for your cable size. Crimp the connector the specified number of times, ensuring the first crimp is just outside the knurl on each side of the center, and subsequent crimps are uniformly spaced along the splice.
- Clean Excess Inhibitor
After crimping, carefully wipe off any excess oxide inhibitor compound from the exterior of the splice. Avoid prolonged skin contact with the compound; wash with soap and water if contact occurs.
