How to Install T&B® 9000 Series Liquidtight Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B® 9000 series liquidtight connectors with flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set, sharp) OR Power band saw, Wrench, Smooth jaw wrench (for PVC coated connectors), Torque wrench, Hand protection, Eye protection

Supplies needed:

T&B® 9000 Series Liquidtight Connector, Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B® 140 Series Locknut (if using knockout box), T&B® 5260 Series Sealing Gasket (if using knockout box), PVC cement (optional, for PVC coated connectors if gouging occurs)

  1. Prepare for Installation and Ensure Safety

Before beginning, read and understand all instructions and safety information. Disconnect power to the circuit before installation to prevent risk of shock. Wear hand protection and eye protection. Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

  2. Cut the Flexible Conduit

Cut the liquidtight flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig (if available from conduit manufacturers) or a sharp hacksaw with 32 teeth per inch. For high-production environments, use a power band saw with 24-32 teeth per inch, operating at no more than 400 feet per minute. Do not use an abrasive wheel.

  3. Assemble the Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, and 9000 series connectors, first slide the gland nut onto the conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone onto the conduit. For PVC coated connectors, use the same assembly method, but tighten with a smooth jaw wrench to prevent gouging. If gouging occurs exposing metal, apply PVC cement.

  4. Install Connector into Knockout Box and Secure

    Insert the assembled connector into the knockout box. For knockout applications, use a T&B® 140 series locknut and a T&B® 5260 series sealing gasket (purchase separately). Ensure the 'O' ring is correctly positioned on the outside of the box. Tighten the locknut to the body according to the specified torque values: 3/8" (200 lb.-in.), 1/2" (300 lb.-in.), 3/4" (500 lb.-in.), 1" (700 lb.-in.), 1 1/4" (1000 lb.-in.), 1 1/2" (1200 lb.-in.), 2" (1600 lb.-in.), 2 1/2" (1600 lb.-in.), 3" (1600 lb.-in.), 3 1/2" (1600 lb.-in.), 4" (1600 lb.-in.).
