How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors

This guide provides instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight connectors for flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw or power band saw, Smooth jaw wrench, Torque wrench

Supplies needed:

Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B liquidtight connector (5000, 7000, 9000, or 3300 series), Locknuts (T&B 140 series or separate for 7000/9000 series), Sealing gaskets (5260 series for knockout applications), PVC cement (optional, for PVC coated connectors), Hand protection, Eye protection

  1. Observe Safety Precautions

WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to prevent risk of shock. CAUTION: Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Wear hand protection and eye protection during the entire process.

  2. Prepare the Flexible Conduit

Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig (available from conduit manufacturers), a sharp hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set), or a power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set, not more than 400'/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel.

  3. Assemble the Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, slide on the gland nut, then the nylon sealing ring, and finally thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. For PVC coated connectors, tighten with a smooth jaw wrench; if gouging occurs exposing metal, PVC cement is recommended.

  4. Install Connector into Knockout Box

Insert the connector body into the knockout box. For knockout applications, use T&B 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchase separately). Ensure the 'O' ring is correctly positioned on the outside of the box ('Box side'). For 7000 and 9000 series, order locknut separately.

  5. Secure the Locknut and Tighten Gland Nut

    Secure the locknut to the connector body. Then, tighten the gland nut to the specified torque as per the provided table (e.g., 3/8" to 200 lb.-in., 1/2" to 300 lb.-in., 3/4" to 500 lb.-in., 1" to 700 lb.-in., 1 1/4" to 1000 lb.-in., 1 1/2" to 1200 lb.-in., 2" to 1600 lb.-in., 2 1/2" to 1600 lb.-in., 3" to 1600 lb.-in., 3 1/2" to 1600 lb.-in., 4" to 1600 lb.-in.).
