How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors (7000 Series)

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors, including safety precautions and assembly details for the 7000 series.

Estimated time: 20m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Metal jig (optional), Smooth jaw wrench, Torque wrench

Supplies needed:

Liquidtight flexible metal conduit, T&B liquidtight connector (7000 series), T&B 140 series locknuts (for knockout applications), T&B 5260 series sealing gaskets (for knockout applications), PVC cement (if needed)

  1. Prepare for Installation and Observe Safety

Before starting, read and understand all instructions and safety information. Disconnect power to avoid risk of shock. Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Wear hand and eye protection.

  2. Cut the Flexible Conduit

Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig or a sharp hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set). For high production, a power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set, not more than 400’/minute) can be used. Do not use an abrasive wheel.

  3. Assemble the Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, and 9000 series connectors, first slide the gland nut onto the flexible conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone into the connector body. For PVC coated connectors, tighten with a smooth jaw wrench; if gouging occurs, apply PVC cement.

  4. Mount the Connector to the Knockout Box

For knockout applications, use T&B® 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchase separately). For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately. Insert the connector body through the knockout hole from the outside of the box, then secure it by threading the locknut onto the connector body from the inside.

  5. Tighten the Connector

    Securely tighten the gland nut onto the connector body to fasten the conduit. Refer to the torque table for specific tightening values based on the fitting's trade size (e.g., 3/8" = 200 lb.-in., 1/2" = 300 lb.-in., 3/4" = 500 lb.-in., 1" = 700 lb.-in., 1 1/4" = 1000 lb.-in., 1 1/2" = 1200 lb.-in., 2" = 1600 lb.-in., 2 1/2" = 1600 lb.-in., 3" = 1600 lb.-in., 3 1/2" = 1600 lb.-in., 4" = 1600 lb.-in.). Ensure the locknut is also firmly tightened to the box wall.
