Overview

The ABB 9353-TB 3/4" 90-degree steel insulated liquidtight connector is engineered for secure, reliable conduit connections in industrial and commercial electrical systems. Designed for Type A non-metallic flexible conduit, this connector ensures a watertight, oil-resistant seal against environmental contaminants while maintaining electrical insulation integrity. The 90-degree angle design optimizes conduit routing in tight spaces, reducing installation time and minimizing stress on cable runs. Constructed from durable steel with a zinc-plated chromate finish, the 9353-TB delivers superior corrosion resistance in harsh environments where moisture, chemicals, or abrasive conditions are present. The integrated nylon insulator and Santoprene® sealing gasket provide electrical isolation and environmental sealing, rated for temperatures up to 105°C. The ISO metric thread size 25 ensures compatibility with metric-threaded conduit systems, eliminating the need for adapters in global installations. The connector’s high mechanical pull-out strength resists vibration and cable tension, while the supplied steel locknut secures the fitting to the enclosure. Available in straight, 45-degree, and 90-degree configurations, the 9353-TB is part of ABB’s T&B® liquidtight fitting series, trusted by electrical contractors and industrial maintenance teams for over a century. Compatible with 3/4" flexible metal conduit, the 9353-TB meets UL/CSA Type 3, 3R, 4, 4X, 6, 12, and 13 standards for environmental protection. Its compact dimensions (2.47" x 1.37" x 2.44") allow installation in confined spaces without sacrificing performance.

How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors

This guide provides detailed instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight connectors with flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability in accordance with electrical codes.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw (32 Tooth/inch), Metal jig (optional), Power band saw (optional), Smooth jaw wrench, Torque wrench, Hand protection, Eye protection

Supplies needed:

T&B liquidtight connector, Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, PVC cement (if needed), T&B 140 series locknut (for knockout applications), 5260 series sealing gasket (for knockout applications)

  1. Observe Safety Precautions

WARNING: Disconnect all power before beginning installation to prevent risk of electrical shock. CAUTION: Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Wear hand protection and eye protection during the entire installation process.

  2. Prepare the Flexible Conduit

Cut the liquidtight flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig if available, or a sharp hacksaw with a 32 Tooth/inch no. set. For high production, use a power band saw with a 24-32 Tooth/inch wavy set, operating at no more than 400 feet per minute. Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting.

  3. Assemble the Liquidtight Connector

For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, first slide the gland nut onto the conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone into the connector body. If using a PVC coated connector, tighten with a smooth jaw wrench; if gouging occurs exposing metal, apply PVC cement.

  4. Install Connector into Knockout Box

Insert the connector body into the knockout box. Ensure the 'O' ring (for 5365-5370 series) or the blue insulator throat (for 5371 series) is correctly positioned on the outside of the box. For knockout applications, use T&B 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchased separately). For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately.

  5. Secure the Connector with Correct Torque

    Tighten the locknut onto the connector body to secure it to the box wall. Refer to the tightening torque table for the specific trade size of your fitting: 3/8" (200 lb.-in.), 1/2" (300 lb.-in.), 3/4" (500 lb.-in.), 1" (700 lb.-in.), 1 1/4" (1000 lb.-in.), 1 1/2" (1200 lb.-in.), 2" (1600 lb.-in.), 2 1/2" (1600 lb.-in.), 3" (1600 lb.-in.), 3 1/2" (1600 lb.-in.), 4" (1600 lb.-in.).
