How to Install the LINK-C Deadbreak Cam Link Operable Connector System

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe and proper installation of the LINK-C 600 amp deadbreak cam link operable connector system, focusing on the alignment bracket mounting method, including wiring, and initial setup.

Estimated time: 1h 30m

Tools needed:

Suitable tool for 1 inch hex, Hot stick, Torque wrench, 600ATM (Operating Tool), Wire strippers

Supplies needed:

ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant, Bushing extender clamp hardware, Elbow clamp hardware, #14 AWG or #12 AWG solid copper wire, Appropriate grounding connector, HV insulated cap(s) or connector(s) (if replacing shipping covers)

  1. Perform Initial Safety Checks and Preparation

DANGER: All apparatus must be de-energized during installation or removal of parts. Do not touch or move energized products. Inspect all parts for damage, rating, and compatibility. Ensure all required tools and supplies are at hand and maintain cleanliness. If supplied with protective shipping covers, remove them and replace with appropriate HV insulated caps or connectors before submerging or energizing.

  2. Install the 600 Amp Elbow onto the Cable

Install the 600 amp elbow onto the cable according to the installation instructions supplied with the elbow. Ensure it will align with the stand-off plug or apparatus bushing.

  3. Clean and Lubricate Bushing Extender and Apparatus Bushing

Clean and thoroughly lubricate the apparatus bushing and both interfaces of the 600 amp bushing extender with ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. This is critical for proper removal of the link.

  4. Install Bushing Extender and Retainer Contact

Install the bushing extender onto the apparatus bushing. Insert the 600ATM into the retainer contact and engage its internal hex broach. Then, insert the retainer contact into the bushing extender and thread it into the apparatus bushing using a suitable tool applied to the 1 inch hex portion of the 600ATM. Torque to 50-60 ft-lbs.

  5. Clean and Lubricate Elbow and Standoff Plug

Clean and thoroughly lubricate the epoxy standoff plug and both interfaces of the 600 amp elbow with ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. This is critical for proper removal of the link.

  6. Install Elbow onto Standoff Plug and Retainer Contact

Install the elbow onto the epoxy standoff plug. Insert the 600AMT into the retainer contact and engage its internal hex broach. Then, insert the retainer contact into the 600 amp elbow through the hole in the compression lug and thread it into the epoxy standoff plug using a suitable tool applied to the 1 inch hex portion of the 600AMT. Torque to 50-60 ft-lbs.

  7. Install the Alignment Bracket

Remove the bushing extender clamp and elbow clamp from the alignment bracket. Position the alignment bracket on the bushing extender 2.5 inches (63.5mm) from the grounding eye. Assemble the bushing extender clamp to the alignment bracket with the supplied hardware and torque by alternating sides until clamp tabs are flush and tight.

  8. Position and Secure the Elbow in the Alignment Bracket

Position the elbow in the alignment bracket such that the elbow cuff is lined up evenly with the bushing extender cuff. Assemble the elbow clamp to the alignment bracket with the supplied hardware and torque by alternating sides until clamp tabs are flush and tight. Ensure the elbow clamp notch faces the cable entrance of the elbow.

  9. Clean, Lubricate, and Insert the Link

Clean and thoroughly lubricate both 600 ampere interfaces of the Link with ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. Align the Link to be perpendicular to the switch faceplate when inserted. Insert the Link into the bushing extender and elbow, ensuring both lever arms are inside the alignment bracket legs.

  10. Engage the Link with the Alignment Bracket

Engage the pivot pin into the slots in the alignment bracket legs. While pushing inward, move the lever arms downward using a hot stick eye, engaging the roller pin and moving the Link inward. Continue moving lever arms until they are perpendicular to the alignment bracket leg.

  11. Ground the System and Install Mating Product

Ground the elbow by feeding a #14 AWG or #12 AWG solid copper wire through the grounding eye, twisting it tight, and connecting it to ground. Clean and lubricate the 200 amp interface on the Link. Ground, then install the desired mating product on the 200 amp interface per its supplied instructions. If using concentric neutral cable, twist wires together and connect to ground. For 20MA or 21MA devices, connect the ground lead to ground. For three-phase installations, tie all grounds from all three phases to a common ground point.
