How to Install the LINK-C Deadbreak Cam Link Operable Connector System
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the LINK-C 600 amp deadbreak connector, enabling a fully shielded, submersible connection between cable and apparatus, with an optional 200 amp tap.
Estimated time: 2h 30m
Tools needed:
600ATM Operating Tool, Torque wrench, Socket wrench (for 1 inch hex), Hot stick, Wire strippers
Supplies needed:
ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant, #14 AWG or #12 AWG solid copper wire, Appropriate grounding connector, HV insulated cap(s) or connector(s)
- Perform Pre-Installation Checks and Safety Procedures
DANGER: All apparatus must be de-energized during installation or removal of parts. All deadbreak connectors must be de-energized before operating. All 200A deadbreak connectors must be mechanically secured with bails when connected. Inspect all parts for damage, proper rating, and compatibility with mating parts. Check package contents for completeness. Read all instructions thoroughly before starting. Have all required tools ready and maintain cleanliness. If supplied with protective shipping covers, remove them and replace with appropriate HV insulated caps or connectors before submerging or energizing the circuit.
- Install the 600 Amp Elbow onto the Cable
Install the 600 amp elbow onto the cable according to the installation instructions supplied with the elbow. Ensure the elbow is positioned such that it will align correctly with the stand-off plug.
- Prepare and Install the Bushing Extender
Clean and thoroughly lubricate the apparatus bushing and both interfaces of the 600 amp bushing extender with ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. Install the bushing extender onto the apparatus bushing. Insert the 600ATM operating tool into the retainer contact and engage its internal hex broach. Insert the retainer contact into the bushing extender and thread it into the apparatus bushing using a suitable tool applied to the 1” hex portion of the 600ATM. Torque to 50-60 ft-lbs.
- Prepare and Install the 600 Amp Elbow onto the Epoxy Standoff Plug
Clean and thoroughly lubricate the epoxy standoff plug and both interfaces of the 600 amp elbow with ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. Install the elbow onto the epoxy standoff plug. Insert the 600AMT operating tool into the retainer contact and engage its internal hex broach. Insert the retainer contact into the 600 amp elbow through the hole in the compression lug and thread it into the epoxy standoff plug using a suitable tool applied to the 1” hex portion of the 600AMT. Torque to 50-60 ft-lbs.
- Install the Alignment Bracket
Remove the bushing extender clamp and elbow clamp from the alignment bracket. Position the alignment bracket on the bushing extender at a dimension of 2.5 inches (63.5mm) from the grounding eye. Assemble the bushing extender clamp to the alignment bracket with the supplied hardware, torquing by alternating sides until the clamp tabs are flush with each other and tight on both sides.
- Position and Secure the Elbow in the Alignment Bracket
Position the elbow in the alignment bracket such that the elbow cuff is lined up evenly with the bushing extender cuff. Assemble the elbow clamp to the alignment bracket with the supplied hardware, torquing by alternating sides until the clamp tabs are flush with each other and tight on both sides. Ensure the elbow clamp notch faces the cable entrance of the elbow.
- Clean, Lubricate, and Insert the Link
Clean and thoroughly lubricate both 600 ampere interfaces of the Link with ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. Align the Link such that when inserted into the bushing extender and elbow, it is perpendicular to the switch faceplate. Insert the Link into the bushing extender and elbow, ensuring both lever arms are on the inside of the alignment bracket legs.
- Engage and Secure the Link
Engage the pivot pin into the slots in the alignment bracket legs. While pushing inward, move the lever arms downward using a hot stick eye. This action will engage the roller pin and move the Link inward. Continue moving the lever arms until they are perpendicular to the alignment bracket leg.
- Ground the System and Install Mating Products
Ground the elbow: Feed a #14 AWG or #12 AWG solid copper wire through the grounding eye on the elbow, twist it tight, and connect it to ground. Clean and lubricate the 200 amp interface on the Link. Ground, then install the desired mating product on the 200 amp interface according to its supplied installation instructions. Ground the cable: If using concentric neutral cable, twist the concentric neutral wires together and connect to ground using an appropriate connector. If 20MA or 21MA grounding devices are used, connect the ground lead from the device to ground using a suitable connector. For three-phase installations, ensure all grounds from all three phases are tied to a common ground point.
