Overview

The ABB Aluminum Compression H-Tap, SKU 63110, is a high-conductivity extruded aluminum connector designed for secure, low-resistance parallel connections in 600V industrial and commercial electrical systems. This H-tap accommodates 4-6 AWG stranded conductors for both main and branch circuits, enabling reliable aluminum-to-aluminum, aluminum-to-copper, and copper-to-copper connections. The 1.5-inch length provides ample space for proper insulation and crimp integrity, while the exclusive FILLERLOK tab design ensures consistent compression and prevents voids in the connection. Engineered for 90°C applications, this connector delivers superior conductivity and mechanical strength when installed with specified tools and dies (TBM6, TBM6S, TBM60RS, TBM14M 13100A, TBM12, or TBM15I series). The Die Code O and Green color code simplify inventory management and tooling selection. Ideal for maintenance, expansion, or tapping into existing circuits without interrupting power flow, the ABB Aluminum Compression H-Tap is a dependable solution for demanding electrical installations where performance and reliability are critical. The connector’s aluminum construction ensures lightweight durability and corrosion resistance, making it suitable for harsh environments. Its parallel design allows for efficient current transfer while minimizing voltage drop, and the compression mechanism provides a gas-tight seal that resists oxidation over time. The H-tap’s compact size and compatibility with standard crimping tools make it a versatile choice for both new installations and retrofit projects in industrial, commercial, and utility applications.

How to Install the FILLERLOK™ Compression Tap

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the FILLERLOK™ compression tap, ensuring secure electrical connections.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound, Mounting screws, Terminal connectors

  1. Prepare the cable

If the cable is insulated, strip the insulation carefully by whittling it, ensuring not to nick the strands.

  2. Apply joint compound

For aluminum cables, apply a thin layer of ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound on the cable and clean it with a wire brush to remove surface oxide.

  3. Insert and crimp the connector

Center the stripped cable in the Main or Branch grooves of the connector, close the FILLERLOK™ tab, and use the appropriate crimping tool to compress the connector according to the specified number of crimps.

  4. Remove sharp edges

After crimping, carefully remove any sharp edges, flashes, or burrs that may have resulted from the crimping process.

  5. Insulate the connection

Follow the insulation methods provided in the installation table to ensure a safe and secure electrical connection.
