Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound, Terminal connectors
- Prepare the cable
If the cable is insulated, strip the insulation carefully by whittling to avoid damaging the strands. Clean the aluminum cable with a wire brush or emery cloth to remove any surface oxide.
- Apply joint compound
Smear a thin layer of ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound on the stripped aluminum cable. Ensure that the Main and Branch grooves of the connector retain their pre-installed compound.
- Insert and crimp the connector
Center the stripped cable in the Main or Branch grooves of the connector. Close the FILLERLOK™ tab securely. Use the appropriate crimping tool and die to make the required compressions between the color bands on the connector.
- Remove sharp edges
After crimping, carefully remove any sharp edges, flashes, or burrs that may have resulted from the crimping process to ensure safety.
- Insulate the connection
Follow the insulation methods outlined in the installation table to properly insulate the connection and ensure safety.
