Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound, Terminal connectors
- Prepare the cable
If the cable is insulated, strip the insulation carefully by whittling to avoid damaging the strands. Clean the aluminum cable with a wire brush or emery cloth to remove any surface oxide.
- Apply joint compound
Smear a thin layer of ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound on the stripped aluminum cable. Ensure that the Main and Branch grooves of the connector are not disturbed.
- Insert and secure the cable
Center the stripped cable in the Main or Branch grooves of the connector. Close the FILLERLOK™ tab securely to ensure a proper connection.
- Crimp the connector
Using the appropriate crimping tool and die, insert the connector into the tool die head. Make compressions between the color bands on the connector, starting from the center and working outward.
- Inspect the connection
After crimping, check for any sharp edges, flashes, or burrs on the connector. Remove any imperfections to ensure a safe and secure connection.
- Insulate the connection
Follow the insulation methods specified in the installation table to properly insulate the crimped connection.
