How to Install a 5342SST6 Liquid-Tight Flexible Metallic Conduit Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly cutting flexible metallic conduit and assembling the 5342SST6 stainless steel liquid-tight fitting for secure and reliable installations in knockout applications.

Supplies needed:
5342SST6 Stainless Steel Liquid-Tight Fitting, Liquid-tight flexible metal conduit, LNSS/050 Locknut (purchase separately), 5262 Seal Gasket (purchase separately)
- Cut the Flexible Metallic Conduit
Ensure a clean, square cut on the end of the flexible metallic conduit. Use a metal jig or a sharp hacksaw with a 32 Tooth/In. blade. For high-volume production, a power band saw with a 24-32 Tooth/In. blade, operating at no more than 400 feet per minute, is recommended. Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting.
- Assemble the Fitting Components onto the Conduit
Slide the stainless steel gland nut onto the prepared end of the flexible conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit, ensuring its correct orientation. Finally, thread the SAFE-EDGE® ground cone into the conduit end.
- Install the Fitting into the Enclosure Box Wall
For knockout applications, insert the fitting body through the box wall. Place the 5262 seal gasket onto the fitting body against the exterior of the box wall. From the interior of the box, thread the LNSS/050 locknut onto the fitting body. Hand-tighten the locknut, then further tighten it by 1/4 turn using a hammer and a standard screwdriver or an equivalent method, as per UL, CSA, and NEMA recommendations.
- Secure the Gland Nut
Tighten the stainless steel gland nut to the recommended UL value of 300 lb-in (33.9 N-m) for the 1/2 inch NPT fitting. This ensures a liquid-tight and dust-tight installation, providing high performance and reliability.
