How to Install a 5345SST6 1-1/4 inch 45-Degree Liquid-Tight Conduit Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling and installing a 5345SST6 1-1/4 inch 45-degree stainless steel liquid-tight fitting for flexible metallic conduit, ensuring a secure and liquid-tight connection to a box wall.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Power band saw, Metal jig, Screwdriver, Hammer, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Liquid-tight flexible metallic conduit, T&B Series LNSS locknut (for knockout applications), T&B Series 5260 seal gasket (for liquid-tight installations)
- Prepare the Flexible Metallic Conduit
Cut the end of the flexible conduit with a clean, square cut. Use a metal jig and a 32 Tooth/In. no. set sharp hacksaw, or a 24-32 Tooth/In. set power band saw (not more than 400'/minute) for high production. DO NOT USE AN ABRASIVE WHEEL.
- Assemble the Fitting Components
Slide the gland nut onto the prepared conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the SAFE-EDGE® ground cone onto the conduit.
- Install the Fitting into the Box Wall
Insert the assembled fitting into the knockout opening of the box wall. For liquid-tight and dust-tight installations, ensure a T&B® Series 5260 seal gasket is placed against the box wall. Secure the fitting by hand-tightening a T&B® Series LNSS locknut (Part No. LNSS/125) onto the fitting's threads from inside the box. Further tighten the locknut by an additional 1/4 turn with a hammer and a standard screwdriver or an equivalent method, aiming for approximately 160 lb-in (18.1 N-m).
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut to the UL recommended torque value for a 1-1/4 inch NPT fitting. For the 5345SST6, this value is 1,000 lb-in (113 N-m). Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightening for a secure and liquid-tight connection.
