How to Install the 5338 Liquidtight Connector

Follow these instructions to properly install T&B® liquidtight connectors for flexible metallic conduit.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw or power band saw, Wrench, Hand protection, Eye protection

Supplies needed:

T&B® liquidtight connector, Locknut (if not pre-assembled), Sealing gasket (for knockout applications), PVC cement (for PVC coated connectors, if needed)

  1. Prepare the Conduit End

Cut the flexible conduit using a metal jig and a sharp hacksaw (32 Tooth/In. set) or a power band saw (24-32 Tooth/In. wavy set, not exceeding 400'/minute). Ensure the cut is clean and square. Do not use an abrasive wheel.

  2. Assemble the Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors: Slide the gland nut onto the conduit, followed by the nylon sealing ring. Thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench for tightening. If metal is exposed, apply PVC cement.

  3. Prepare for Knockout or Specific Series

For knockout applications, use T&B® 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchased separately). For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately.

  4. Install the Connector Body

Position the connector body onto the conduit and through the knockout or box wall. For Chase® connectors, ensure the Chase® Nipple is inside the knockout. Lock the assembly by tightening the Chase® Nipple to the body or by turning the body onto the Chase® Nipple.

  5. Tighten the Gland Nut

Tighten the gland nut to the specified torque based on the trade size of the fitting. Refer to the torque table in the documentation for exact values (e.g., 200 lb.-in. for 3/8" fittings).

  6. Verify Installation

Ensure all components are securely fastened and the connection is watertight. Verify that the nylon sealing ring and captive 'O' ring (if applicable) are properly seated.
