Overview

The ABB 5274 1 Inch Steel Liquidtight Female Hub Adapter provides a robust threaded connection for liquidtight flexible metal conduit (LFMC) systems. Constructed from durable steel, this adapter ensures mechanical strength and corrosion resistance in demanding industrial settings. The female hub design allows direct attachment to compatible male-threaded conduit or fittings, eliminating additional adapters in most installations. With a 1-inch nominal size, it integrates seamlessly with standard LFMC systems used in manufacturing plants, chemical processing facilities, and commercial construction projects. Unlike PVC or aluminum alternatives, steel offers superior impact resistance and long-term stability under vibration-prone conditions. Typical applications include machine enclosures, control panels, and outdoor electrical installations where environmental protection against liquids and contaminants is critical. The adapter’s threaded interface provides a secure, vibration-resistant joint that maintains system integrity over time. For installations requiring grounding continuity, this steel adapter ensures electrical continuity when used with properly bonded conduit systems. Suitable for hazardous locations including Class I Div. 2, Class II Div.
  • 1 Inch nominal size for standard LFMC systems

How to Install T&B Liquidtight Flexible Metallic Conduit Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight connectors with flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set, sharp), Metal jig, Power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set), Smooth jaw wrench, Torque wrench, Hand protection (gloves), Eye protection (safety glasses)

Supplies needed:

Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B liquidtight connector (e.g., 5000, 7000, 9000, or 3300 series), T&B 140 series locknut, T&B 5260 series sealing gasket, PVC cement

  1. Prepare and Cut Flexible Conduit

Before starting, disconnect power to prevent risk of shock. Wear hand and eye protection. Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig or a sharp hacksaw with 32 teeth/inch. For high production, use a power band saw with 24-32 teeth/inch, not exceeding 400 feet/minute. Do not use an abrasive wheel.

  2. Assemble Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, slide the gland nut onto the conduit, followed by the nylon sealing ring. Then, thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. For PVC coated connectors, tighten with a smooth jaw wrench. If gouging occurs exposing metal, apply PVC cement.

  3. Install Connector into Box and Secure

Insert the connector body into the knockout box. For knockout applications, use T&B 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchase separately). For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately. Tighten the gland nut to the specified torque (e.g., 200 lb-in for 3/8", 300 lb-in for 1/2", 500 lb-in for 3/4", 700 lb-in for 1", 1000 lb-in for 1 1/4", 1200 lb-in for 1 1/2", 1600 lb-in for 2" to 4"). Ensure the 'Box side' of the connector is correctly positioned on the outside of the box. For 'Space Saver' Chase® connector assemblies, lock-up by tightening the Chase® Nipple to the body or by turning the body onto the Chase® Nipple.
