How to Install a Push-in Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly installing a push-in liquidtight flexible metal conduit fitting. It covers preparing the conduit, inserting it into the fitting, and torquing the gland nut for a secure, liquidtight seal. Disconnect power before installation to avoid risk of shock.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Sharp hacksaw or band saw, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Listed liquidtight flexible metal conduit, Push-in Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit Fitting, 5262 series sealing rings (for knockout applications)
- Prepare the Conduit
Using a sharp hacksaw or band saw, cut the liquidtight flexible metal conduit. Ensure the cut end is clean and square, then remove any burrs or frayed material from the cut edge.
- Prepare the Fitting
Do not disassemble the fitting. Lightly spin the Gland Nut down until you feel minor resistance, indicating the Sealing Ring and Ground Cone chamfer are in contact.
- Insert the Conduit
Align the prepared conduit and carefully push it onto the exposed end of the Ground Cone. Once the conduit starts into the Sealing Ring's throat, firmly push it until it bottoms out. To verify full insertion, mark the conduit from the cut end at the specified depth (e.g., 13/16” for 3/8” or 1/2” conduit, 7/8” for 3/4” conduit, 1-3/16” for 1” conduit). The mark should be level with the top of the sealing ring when fully inserted. Do not pull back on the conduit once it is fully inserted.
- Torque the Gland Nut
Using a torque wrench, tighten the Gland Nut to the specified torque value (e.g., 200 lbs.-in. for 3/8” conduit, 300 lbs.-in. for 1/2” conduit, 500 lbs.-in. for 3/4” conduit, 700 lbs.-in. for 1” conduit). The fitting must be fully torqued for proper performance.
